Some of the top athletes in the west gathered at Bishop Gorman High in Nevada last weekend for the Polynesian Bowl combine.
Several players were named top performers of the weekend by the media and coaches on hand.
Santa Margarita class of 2023 offensive lineman [player_tooltip player_id="145203" first="Jalani" last="Liva"] is waiting for his first offer but was one of the top players at the event. He is a tackle for the Eagles but will likely be an interior lineman at the college level. He made the "best on best" period at the end of the day and looked solid. He is outstanding with his hand placement in pass protection and keeping his chest up throughout the rep. He manages his weight well and when guys try to spin or club inside on him, he is fast enough with his feet to cut them off. He earned an invite to the Polynesian Bowl and hopefully his success at this event gets him some offers.

Sticking with the offensive line, Long Beach Poly tackle [player_tooltip player_id="145229" first="Tyson" last="Ruffins"] has had an excellent offseason. He shined at the Giant Skillz National Showcase last month and impressed again in Nevada. He is one of the strongest linemen I've seen in his class and he could be a tackle or guard as well. His strength helps him keep the separation with his long arms and also helps him not give up much ground against defensive tackles. Fresno State, Idaho State, Morgan State and Nevada have offered.

St. John Bosco defensive back [player_tooltip player_id="115432" first="Marcelles" last="Williams"] was one of the best players of the day at the Under Armour Next All-American camp recently and showed up again last weekend. He is still skinny but he isn't short, is a great on-ball defender who times his jumps well. He can run with anybody in man coverage and is physical without drawing penalties. He has two brothers in the Pac 12 but people have told me that he has the highest upside of the family. He thrives in a camp setting and loves matching up with the top guys during 1on1 period.

San Marcos defensive lineman Brian Butler was named defensive line MVP. He is on the smaller side at 6-foot-2 and under 240 pounds. He is a tenacious rusher off the edge who beats guys off the ball and has room to put on size.

Centennial (Corona) linebacker [player_tooltip player_id="270906" first="Samarai" last="Anderson"] was the top defensive player at the Prep Redzone Stock Up Showcase in January and had a good showing at the Polynesian combine. He moves so well laterally that he can get to the flat quickly in zone coverage and matches up well with running backs in 1on1 drills. He is one of my favorite linebackers in his class and is still waiting for his first offer.

Class of 2024 quarterback Andrew Maushardt is big and impressive. He transferred to St. Paul (Santa Fe Springs) from Servite where he may have been in line to be the starter with the departure of [player_tooltip player_id="25286" first="Noah" last="Fifita"]. He is 6-foot-2, pushing 200 pounds with a big frame. He has a quick release and puts good touch on his intermediate throws. He seems to be connecting with St. Paul's top receiver Aidan Bravo. Maushardt can spin it as good as nearly any quarterback in his class.

Bishop Amat was already pretty loaded at the receiver position but the addition of St. John Bosco transfer [player_tooltip player_id="145195" first="Raiden" last="Brown"] makes the rich get richer. Multiple scouts at the event said that Brown was getting open consistently and is explosive out of his break.

St. John Bosco guard [player_tooltip player_id="282718" first="Matai" last="Jefferson"] was one of the best class of 2025 offensive linemen at the event according to multiple reports. He is massive at 6-foot-4 and 315 pounds. Reports say he is focusing on leaning out and if he can do that without sacrificing his strength, he will be a national recruit in the near future. He already has an offer from Texas.

Murrieta Valley interior offensive lineman [player_tooltip player_id="190343" first="Jason" last="Steele"] was one of my favorite centers at the Under Armour Next All-American Camp and is one of the best 1on1 pass protectors in the state. He has such a wide base and manages his weight well. His hand placement is good and when defenders swipe away his hands, he replaces them quickly. He was offered by Fresno State recently and visited Utah State on Monday.
