Just over a year after Luke Wysong signed with UNM, 2023 Rio Rancho (NM) Cleveland quarterback/wide receiver Evan Wysong Evan Wysong 5'10" | 165 lbs | QB Cleveland | 2023 State NM announced Monday morning om social media that he had verbally committed to the Lobos. He attended Saturday’s spring game at UNM Stadium.
In his first year as a starter, Wysong helped lead undefeated Cleveland to the 2021 Class 6A championship, throwing for 1,787 yards and 19 touchdowns with just 3 interceptions in 13 games. He also rushed for 987 yards and 3 TD as he just missed joining the 1,000-1,000 club.
Wysong was named 2021 New Mexico Player of the Year by MaxPreps.
Wysong is one of several offensive standouts returning for Cleveland in 2022. In addition, RB Josh Perry Josh Perry 5'10" | 185 lbs | RB Cleveland | 2023 State NM and WR Nic Trujillo Nic Trujillo 6'1" | 160 lbs | WR Cleveland | 2023 State NM both return while former Albuquerque High RB Andres Aguirre Andres Aguirre 5'11" | 180 lbs | RB Cleveland | 2024 State NM joins the program.
Wysong is also a track standout in the sprints and relays. He’s widely regarded as one of the state’s fastest players and should be a strong contender for Prep Redsone New Mexico’s ’King of Speed’ crown to be awarded this summer.
He recently attended the Rivals Combine in Los Angeles and ran a sub-4.6 in the 40.
