With this series of lists I’m going to take you through the top 35 ranked defensive backs here at prepredzone.com. I sure found some hidden gems going through just the first 7 and I’m excited to share 35-28 with y’all! Let’s get started!
35. [player_tooltip player_id="136183" first="Devin" last="Bell"] DB 6’ 175lbs Dallas Skyline
[player_tooltip player_id="136183" first="Devin" last="Bell"] is an interesting prospect. He is listed at defensive back but he played slot of snaps in the box this past season and I see why. This guy flies to the football, gets through blocks and takes great pursuit angles. I see the nickle role being a great spot for him with his skills of being able to be involved in the run as much as the pass game. I’m excited to see what he does this season!
34. [player_tooltip player_id="136188" first="Brian" last="Hollins"] CB 5’11" 170lbs Desoto
[player_tooltip player_id="136188" first="Brian" last="Hollins"] has some of the smoothest footwork you’ll see in highschool football. This is a press man cornerback that reads the receivers hips throughout the play and stays in front of the route. Hollins has the ability to be a difference maker from the outside corner position for Desoto, championship repeat?
33. [player_tooltip player_id="136186" first="Brock" last="Foster"] CB 6’1" 180lbs Del Valle
1int 5PBU 30 tackles 1 defensive touchdown
[player_tooltip player_id="136186" first="Brock" last="Foster"] has a good awareness of the field, especially in zone coverage. Foster attacks the ball in the air and challenges everything thrown his way! He is constantly contesting throws and is just a scrappy player at the outside corner position! Foster plays fast and has good football instincts, he is a cornerback that is more than willing to tackle and could easily translate to free safety if needed, with his track speed I think he could have great range to play cover3/cover1 deep saftey. This is a prospect I will be watching very closely in the 2023 recruiting class and I would advise anybody interested in highschool football to do the same.
32. [player_tooltip player_id="60880" first="Xavier" last="LeJeune"] CB 6’2" 180lbs Dallas Skyline
Xavier is an in your face outside corner that’s going to lockdown his side of the field. He has great ball skills and keeps his discipline in zone coverage when teams try to fool him. The willingness to tackle runningbacks really stands out for Le Jeune, most outside guys want to just cover but he puts his nose in the mix.
31. [player_tooltip player_id="136193" first="Jason" last="Hampton"] DB 6’ 160lbs South Houston
[player_tooltip player_id="136193" first="Jason" last="Hampton"] is a guy that can do it all. You want him to play outside corner and lock him down? Or do you want him to play deep safety and lurk? He has great film of both but if you ask me I’d let Hampton play saftey, gives him more opportunities to make plays being that he is a great tackler and has the speed to play cover 3 Free Safety.
30. [player_tooltip player_id="136190" first="Haeven" last="Watson"] DB 5’11" 165lbs Veterans Memorial
All District 1st team cornerback
Watson is a a press man cornerback that completely blankets recievers from the start of the route to the finish. He gets his head turned around to look for the ball in man coverage and contests every single catch while fighting for the football!
29. [player_tooltip player_id="136184" first="Darrius" last="Adams"] DB 5’9" 165lbs Aldine Eisenhower
’20 2nd team all district cornerback. ’21 2nd team all district safety.
Darrius Adam’s is a read and react safety that also has the man coverage skills to line up at outside corner. Darrius is a sure tackler and is a trusted player to have as your last line of defense.
28. [player_tooltip player_id="60881" first="Cayden" last="Fortson"] CB 6’ 180lbs Sabine
64 tackles 6 interceptions 10 PBU 3 FF
After seeing 6 interceptions and 10 pass breakups I just had to watch the film on [player_tooltip player_id="60881" first="Cayden" last="Fortson"] because I was like "no way this can be real." After watching his junior film I was not only convinced, but astonished that other teams continued to throw anywhere in his vicinity! I could say alot about Fortson on how dynamic of a player he is and I most likely will on future list but for now I’ll just say that Cayden has huge potential and I will be watching more of him this season.
