I stepped into the Metro all weekend scouting offseason football, which started Saturday morning in Richfield scouting QBs with our friends at 612Qs, and ending our Minnesota football scouting weekend at Park Center High School, scouting the Potenza Sports 7on7 practice inside the dome on Sunday morning scouting QBs, all the way to the secondary.
As we load up our Minnesota content into Sunday, we start off with five of the first prospects that stood out to us at the Potenza Sports practice, as they continue their 7on7 spring season and unleash yet again a Border Battle this Thursday with Recruit Ready, an Ontario, Canada based 7on7 program that will make the trip into the United States to play for Potenza Sports for the first time in two seasons. Find out who were our first five standouts out the gates that really stood out for Potenza Sports on Sunday morning in Brooklyn Park!
Tyler Nystrom Tyler Nystrom 6'2" | 180 lbs | WR Mounds View | 2024 State MN | WR | Mounds View | 2024
Talk about a kid with freaking glue hands, that would be how I would describe Tyler Nystrom Tyler Nystrom 6'2" | 180 lbs | WR Mounds View | 2024 State MN of Mounds View on Sunday morning. Every ball thrown on deep routes or intermediate routes he found every way possible to get the football. This young man showed great balance working along the edges, and showed a ton of natural skill with his hands to his footwork. Whether the ball was highly contested or not, Tyler found a way. In my eyes, Tyler plays much bigger than his size (6’0) and should be a scholarship-level talent before his career with the Mustangs is over. If I had to dish out an MVP from Sunday morning in Brooklyn Park, it would certainly be handed out to Tyler.
Willy Snyder | DB | Academy of Holy Angels | 2023
Willy is a DB prospect way under the radar, but showed some great potential at practice on Sunday morning at Park Center. The best skillsets Willy brought to the table was his excellent balance around the edges where he worked his feet strongly in 1on1s. He also showed a significant dig in his feet, which with more development can become softer as he gets more reps this offseason with Potenza Sports. No film on this young man yet, but I think this late bloomer is going to make some noise this summer and in the 2022 season.
Alex Lorenzo-Hart Alex Lorenzo-Hart 5'9" | 160 lbs | DB Wayzata | 2023 State MN | DB | Wayzata | 2023
I could not get enough of watching the physicality Alex brought to the table on Sunday morning in Brooklyn Park. This young man has some snappy hands that press the receiver off the play as early as you could want forcing them to lose their full momentum for the duration of the play. Alex shows a high vertical and straight jets for speed from what I watched on tape from his last tournament with Potenza. Alex has that cornerback demeanor I would totally want on my college roster. College coaches certainly need to take a crack at this young man this summer at prospect camps.
Finn McElroy Finn McElroy 6'2" | 205 lbs | QB Edina | 2023 State MN | QB | Edina | 2023
Finn showed off plenty of solid skillsets on Sunday morning at Park Center. It started when I watched his quick release that could get out very quickly especially when he needed to go rapid & fire on shorter routes. He also showed increased elusiveness from what I watched last summer in 7on7 football, as he got out of his stance quick and could get out of the pocket smoother than last season. Finn really turned it up a notch with his deep ball placement as he was able to find Potenza veteran Tyler Nystrom Tyler Nystrom 6'2" | 180 lbs | WR Mounds View | 2024 State MN and plenty of others by showing off some sound arm strength with increased accuracy. There is not a doubt in my mind that Finn has some Division I potential that will open up plenty of eyes this summer at prospect camps, you can bet on that!
Leshaun Madden | WR | Osseo | 2023
Leshaun showed a quick trigger with getting off the snap, which was the first skillset that popped out in my first look of watching this young man. He showed a significant burst when he broke into his cuts with his route running and on a short field, was able to create solid leverage to get off the hands of the secondary. Leshaun is another diamond in the rough prospect on this list, so college coaches should take Leshaun and plenty of these other Potenza Sports prospects a firm look especially in the 2023 class, which is extremely loaded in Minnesota. Looking forward to his summer 7on7 tape as well as the value he shows for the Orioles in the 2022 season.
Part II will be out tomorrow 3/23/2022, to cover the second batch of prospects that balled out at the Potenza Sports practice!
