Here are some peach-state prospects who made their college commitments this month…
Troy Ford Troy Ford 6'1" | 235 lbs | DL Calvary Day | 2023 State GA Jr – Calvary Day – Committed to UCF
A versatile defender in the Savannah area, Ford Jr is a big outside linebacker and one of the top overall defenders in the area. He’s strong, thick, and has plenty of athleticism in his 6-foot-2 235-pound frame. He’s physical as a defender and knows how to get after the passer off the edge. He’s one of the top overall defenders in the region and earned offers from some highly-respectable D1 programs. In thee end, Ford Jr decided to commit to Central Florida, and he has a chance to play early down in Orlando. He’s a reliable pass rusher who can attack the football, so there’s a chance he’ll end up playing some with his hand on thee ground at the next level. He has a college-ready frame and his junior film from last fall suggests he can come in and contribute in 3rd down situations if the Knights are looking for more pass rush.
Ka’Shawn Thomas Ka’Shawn Thomas 5'11" | 284 lbs | DL Brunswick | 2023 GA – Brunswick – Committed to Wake Forest
A big, impactful defensive lineman from South Georgia, the Brunswick star is a game-wrecking interior lineman with impressive quickness for his size. A thick, stout defensive tackle at 6-foot-2 315-pounds, Thomas plugs the middle of the line of scrimmage and does a nice job of consistently making plays in the backfield. Even when he’s not the one making the tackle, he’s making an impact and helping his teammates secure the play. He’s quick off the ball and uses his size and strength to get off blocks when he isn’t being double-teamed. He closes thee running lanes well and consistently makes the opposing back redirect and change directions if he doesn’t find room between the tackles. He’s one of the more dominant interior defensive linemen in the lower-Savannah area, and he committed to Wake Forest this month. As a junior last fall, Thomas made 56 tackles, 8 TFLs, and 3 sacks.
Malik Tullis – Creekside – Committed to Eastern Michigan
An under-rated defensive lineman from Fairburn, just outside of Atlanta, Tullis has found a home as he committed to Eastern Michigan earlier this month. A strong, powerful defensive tackle at 6-foot-1 260-pounds, Tullis is quick for his size and lived in the backfield all season. He plays with leverage and does a nice job of using his hands to drive opposing linemen backwards. He has a nose for the football and knows how to make a critical tackle when around the ball-carrier. He also has no problem running down the ball carrier. His size won’t blow you away, but he was very productive last season and played on an extremely productive defense. He has a knack for making plays, and if he isn’t blocked properly, he has the ability to blow up a play from the start. Look for him to be one of the top returning defensive tackles in Atlanta as a senior in 2022.
