Prep Redzone Louisiana reached out to coaches and managers around the state for a few of their top players to watch in the first month or so of action.
Here are a trio of talented underclassmen to watch from the JackBoyz, a younger program helping bring more 7-on-7 opportunities to often-overlooked central Louisiana.
Amyrion Mingo Amyrion Mingo 5'11" | 170 lbs | ATH Alexandria | 2024 State LA — 5-11, 170 WR — Alexandria (2024)
The young multisport athlete caught our attention this time last year as a quick, versatile football prospect who had the potential to be among the best in Louisiana’s 2024 class. He carried that momentum into a strong sophomore campaign at Alexandria in which that picture continued to come into focus. Mingo showed decent speed to hurt high school defenses vertically, but particularly impressed with quick feet and focus on route running to be able to work himself free over the middle or make defenders miss after screens or other catches.
J.T. Lindsey — 5-11, 170 RB — Alexandria (2025)
Mingo’s high school teammate was an immediate impact player for the Trojans as a ninth-grader this fall, complimenting senior Jarvis Newton Jarvis Newton 5'11" | 190 lbs | RB Alexandria | 2022 State LA and even stepped up well into a more prominent role when Newton was healing nagging injuries late in the season. Lindsey rushed for an average of more than 300 yards and six touchdowns combined in Alexandria’s final two regular season games and announced himself as an up-and-coming player to watch for the years to come. This spring, he’s also getting the opportunity to tune and showcase his pass-catching ability in the 7-on-7 format.
Kyle Johnson Kyle Johnson 6'0" | 170 lbs | ATH Bunkie | 2025 State LA — 6-0, 155 ATH — Bunkie (2025)
Alexandria, which reached the 2020 Class 5A state championship game, is far from the only program with young prospects to watch on this year’s JackBoyz roster. Farther southeast, a school with less recent history of producing college signees has another of central Louisiana’s most intriguing young athletes, a ninth grader who has put some good plays on film already in both the fall and spring. Johnson is a two-way standout for Bunkie and likely college defensive back with a wiry frame, good ball skills, feel for the game, speed and quick-cut ability.
