There’s a bit of a trend in this fifth Community Film Room, as this group featured comes from the offensive side of the ball. The group is headlined by four Class of ’23 prospects ready for one last ride, and a young quarterback hailing from the Shawnee Mission area.
Logan Morley – Shawnee Mission NW, 6’1”, 160, QB, Class of ’25
The Cougars have had solid play from under center over the last few seasons, which has led to some deep playoff runs. But they now have to answer the question of who will become their next signal caller. Logan Morley is a young prospect that should compete for the starting job over the summer. He showed some promise at the freshmen level during the ’21 season, and he’s looked sharp in 7-on-7 competitions with Epic7Midwest this year. One of the things that was impressive about Morley’s film was his playmaking ability. He showed that he could make some tough throws on the run from different arm angles, and he could find his check downs when faced with pressure. This could be a big offseason for the sophomore to be.
Gavin Cain – Nemaha Central, 6’0”, 160, WR, Class of ’23
Nemaha Central is a program that likes to spread the wealth amongst their offensive weapons, so Cain’s targets were limited as a junior. Despite that, he looked impressive any time the ball was thrown his way. Cain saw most of his targets come from the slot, where he managed to average 16.4 yards per catch. His agility and toughness were a big reason for that average. There’d be times when Cain looked bottled up, but his ability to make defenders miss would come into effect. His vision in the open field allows him to find cut back lanes, and he has the strength to fight through arm tackles. Cain is in line to be one of the Thunder’s top players this season.
Callahan Huston – St. James Academy, 6’2”, 170, ATH, Class of ‘23
St. James’ starting offense will look significantly different this season. With the Thunder graduating one of their All-State receivers, and their starting quarterback transferring out-of-state; Huston could become a very important player for the defending state champs. He immediately becomes an intriguing prospect on their roster. Huston presents a lengthy frame as a wideout, and could line up opposite of John Niesen John Niesen 6'3" | 180 lbs | WR St. James Academy | 2023 State KS . There’s also the possibility of him competing for the starting quarterback job. Overall, he’s an athletic prospect that is sure to be used in a variety of ways as a senior.
Xavion Felton – Junction City, 5’11”, 205, ATH, Class of ’23
Felton took on the role of starting quarterback during his junior year and ended the season as an All-Centennial League Honorable Mention selection. The first-year starter performed well, as he accounted for over 1,300 yards of total offense and 20 total touchdowns, and helped lead Junction City to an 8-2 record. During his junior year he showed he was capable of making difficult throws on roll outs to the left side of the field, and displayed solid ball placement. He isn’t afraid to put his shoulder down when he’s called on to run either. Look for Felton to put up bigger numbers in his second year starting.
Troy Boyd – Chapman, 6’4”, 285, OL, Class of ’23
This fifth Community Film Room has mostly highlighted playmakers on offense, but we’re wrapping it up with an offensive lineman that could draw some serious interest this year. Boyd picked up an All-League Honorable Mention selection after helping clear some major holes for a backfield that rushed for over 3,400 yards. His measurables scream next level, and then you turn on his film and it’s easy to see why he’s receiving interest from a few D-I FCS programs. This young man is aggressive and plays with high intensity. Boyd has the quickness and strength to blow defenders off the line. He should be one of the top right guards in Class 3A this year.
