Ed Brooks (@ebrooks6ed) and myself (@whelms21) watch every piece of film sent to us or the Prep Redzone NC (@PrepRedzoneNC) Twitter account. In this offseason feature, we give our honest take on some of the players who have reached out.
William Lane, 5’10 140, WR, 2024- Southeast Raleigh
Lane does a good job getting open and working back to the quarterback when a play breaks down. He possesses good speed, especially for his age and does a good job disguising his routes and is surprisingly strong at the catch point. In the open field, he’s shifty and does a good job getting upfield and maximizing his yards after the catch. He’ll need to add some weight as he gets older, but I’m impressed with his blocking ability and think he’s showing great potential early in his career.
Michael Short Michael Short 6'3" | 215 lbs | LB Mallard Creek | 2023 State NC , 6’3 215, LB, 2023- Mallard Creek
I’ll take the heat for just missing on Short, who is a Division 1 prospect through and through. He plays multiple positions and possesses great size and speed. His future is at linebacker, where he has great instincts and gets downhill in a hurry when he diagnoses plays. His tackle numbers are great and most of them are not cheap. He’s an excellent open field tackler with a lot of old school pop but flashes coverage ability as well. He can play a bit of offense as well and his grades will allow him to go anywhere he wants.
Carter Jacobs Carter Jacobs 6'5" | 290 lbs | OL Middle Creek | 2024 State NC , 6’4 280, OT, 2024- Middle Creek
Jacobs is a powerful right tackle that shows good balance and footwork as a run blocker. He excels as a down blocker and can consistently get the the second level in the running game. In the passing game he flashes patience and a good lower body. Every so often, he’ll lean a bit too far forward in both run and pass sets but overall he does a great job of staying balanced and relaxed.
Rusho Moinuddin, 6’4 320, OG, 2024- Green Level
Moinuddin is a massive guard with a lot of potential on the offensive line. He’s a bit raw, but his strength is apparent from the first few seconds of his sophomore tape. Moinuddin does a great job blocking through the whistle and can move just about anybody off the line. His strength is as a run blocker, where he can use his lower body to drive defenders backwards and open up lanes for his backs. As a pass blocker, he needs to refine his technique a bit, but he has massive potential as a powerful interior lineman.
Jeremiah Holmes Jeremiah Holmes 6'3" | 215 lbs | LB Hillside | 2023 State NC , 6’3 215, LB, 2023- Hillside
Holmes is a big, imposing middle linebacker that excels against the run and doesn’t miss a lot of tackles. He has good instincts and can fill holes in the running game. He’s more of a zone coverage player than he is a guy that will take a running back or tight end in man-to-man, but he understands his assignments in the passing game and that isn’t really a weakness to his game. He’s not the fastest guy you’ll ever find, but he has enough speed to cover the edges of the field against a running back or scrambling quarterback and delivers big hits when he catches skill players.
