As the spring continues to heat up, we are continuing to find players! This week’s group has a lot of college sleeper prospects who should start hearing their phones buzz in the coming months. Let’s check them out!
Elijah Spratt Elijah Spratt 5'10" | 170 lbs | ATH Amory | 2024 State MS | 2024 ATH
Out of Amory High School, Elijah Spratt Elijah Spratt 5'10" | 170 lbs | ATH Amory | 2024 State MS is a do it all athlete who made a ton of big plays for the Panthers this season. The young receiver/defensive back stands at 5’10″ 160 pounds with plenty of room to continue filling out. On the defensive side of the ball, Spratt lines up at corner and excels in zone coverage. He has good hips and can turn and run with his receiver. Spratt does a great job at tracking the ball downfield and breaking on it to make a quick break up or interception. Spratt also has impressive speed in the open field. On the offensive side, Spratt plays at various receiver positions and does a great job at creating separation. He is a fluid route runner with good ball skills and can high point the football. Spratt also brings value as a punt and kick returner to the table. Really undervalued prospect right now.
Aikireon Hopkins | 2023 LB
Although the Wayne County product lines up with his hand in the dirt at defensive end most the time, it is hard not to love his potential as a stand up 3-4 rush outside linebacker at the next level. Hopkins stands at 6’2″ 225 and has great length in his arms to go along with that. If there was one word to describe Hopkins, it would be disruptive. Hopkins is quick off the ball and uses his speed to his advantage. He has violent hands and can easily get off blocks in the run and pass game. As a pass rusher, Hopkins has a variety of moves but primarily depends on his aggressive bull rush and speed rush. A fundamental tackler, Hopkins wraps up and delivers a big blow to the ball carrier and rarely misses a tackle in the open field. While he currently lists offers from Co-Lin and Gulf Coast, expect that list to grow soon. Pass rushers are a premium for most teams!
Travious Hayes | 2023 DB
A standout player on both sides of the ball at North Panola, Travious Hayes stands at 5’9″ 160. Although he may be on the smaller side, he certainly does not play that way. Hayes is all over the field and has great speed in the open field. He lines up at the free safety spot, but will routinely come down and play in the box as a run supporter. Hayes is a quick twitched defensive back who can change direction well. He has a high football IQ and can quickly diagnose what is happening on the field. Hayes breaks on the ball well and takes good angles in pursuit. What stands out most about his game is his tackling ability. Hayes loves contact and is constantly in great position to make a big tackle on the ball carrier. Really well rounded safety who should add some interest this spring.
Calvin Miller | 2023 DL
Standing at 6’4″ 250, Calvin Miller is a defensive lineman who certainly looks the part. The Choctaw County big man is an athletic end who can move in space. Miller has a great stack and shed move and can quickly get off blocks in the run game. His athleticism allows him to make big plays in the backfield and run down ball carriers. As a pass rusher, Miller does a great job at getting off the ball and bending around the edge. He uses his length well to defeat opposing tackles and runs with a head full of steam after the quarterback. Miller is always around the football and has a motor that runs hot throughout the duration of a game. Although he is currently undervalued, watch for Miller to continue to make strides in his development and add college interest through the rest of the year. Big time potential.
JJ Claiborne | 2024 RB
At Adams County Christian, JJ Claiborne made a big impact as a sophomore rushing for 878 yards and 11 TDs on 123 carries. The young back stands at 6’0″ 215 pounds and already looks the part of a future college running back. Claiborne is a downhill slasher type back that runs straight over defenders in his path. His lower center of gravity allows him to shed arm tackles and stay upright on his feet through contact. He has solid speed in the open field, but makes most his money between the tackles. This guy is tough to bring down and usually requires multiple defenders to slow him down and stop him. With his natural strength already in hand, watch for Claiborne to continue to add quickness to his game and become a very well rounded running back. Good player with a lot of potential left in his final 2 high school seasons.
