This to say the least was the most loaded field of quarterbacks we watched on Saturday morning in Richfield. From first looks, to experienced veterans, to under the radar QB prospects, we uncover all those elements from this group of eight quarterbacks from Sartell to the South Metro!
Charles Hubanks | Minneapolis Southwest | 2024
Charles started off his Saturday morning by showing solidly improved hip drive in the early drills of the second session. He still showed some rawness when it comes to his balance when working thru his progressions in the pocket, but once he got settled in, he looked more smooth with his steps in reverse. The bests of Charles session was how consistent his ball placement was, as he did a excellent job hitting his marks consistently where the ball was supposed to go. His throwing release also showed great improvement from the last session I took in just over a month ago. My collogue Oliver West will be happy to know that his Lakers are in good hands at the QB1 position over the few years!
Will Schultz | Princeton | 2024
Will was a first look QB prospect I got my eyes on in the second session from the Princeton Tigers. This young man has some raw ability, especially with his touch on his throws but as the session went on, developed some good rhythm from start to finish. It might just a Princeton thing, but Will also was well put together for his age and had the measurables that would pass the eye test at his age. Will showed some good zip on the football once he got settled and although has some work to do, I think this kid will be a great asset to the Tigers over the coming years as he also plays linebacker in Princeton.
Trevor Fleege | St. Cloud Cathedral | 2023
I got to watch Trevor in the 2021 season with limited reps against Milaca. With the added reps in Richfield, Trevor showed great mechanics when working thru his rotations showing a fluid pocket presence despite limited reps in 2021. Trevor was another prospect that showed a solid level of consistency with his ball placement. His finished throws were another skillset he showed a steady yet fully thrown ball, that I think even has more juice left in the tank for development. I see a very strong connection being developed with Trevor and big tight end Kellen Kinzer Kellen Kinzer 6'4" | 220 lbs | TE St. Cloud Cathedral | 2023 State MN in the 2022 season, as I believe both young men have ample tools to pave the Crusaders in the right direction and both should be solid college level prospects when it is all said and done.
Caden Wick Caden Wick 6'0" | 190 lbs | QB Prior Lake | 2024 MN | Prior Lake | 2024
If we are talking about one of the best finished balls in the 9AM session, I think you need to look at Caden Wick Caden Wick 6'0" | 190 lbs | QB Prior Lake | 2024 MN of Prior Lake for that award if we were handing them out. Caden also showed some excellent composure with his pocket presence in Coach Frisell’s drills. Caden started the 9 AM session with showing some balanced rhythm that remained consistent with his hip rotation early on. Caden is certainly a QB prospect I will have my eyes on as we enter the 2022 season, as I think he is way under the radar as far as my eyes can see on the recruiting trail.
Cole Hentges Cole Hentges 6'0" | 200 lbs | QB Sartell-St. Stephen | 2023 State MN | Sartell | 2023
Bare with me Prep Redzone subscribers, if I have used enough adjectives over the last few years to describe Sartell’s Cole Hentges Cole Hentges 6'0" | 200 lbs | QB Sartell-St. Stephen | 2023 State MN , I will not be sorry. Cole showed a very competitive balance in his footwork. Cole also showed improved speed thru his progressions, which I cannot wait to see grow once we get outside this Spring to see him release more throws from the move. Rumor has it there might be a 6’6 wide receiver headed to Sartell sometime soon, and based on the throws I saw Cole make from top to bottom with the height of his ball yesterday, he will for sure be able to feed whichever tall WR wants to play with a straight-up gamer of a QB that checks everything box I am looking for in my QB on and off the field.
Jacob Czarnota | Park (Cottage Grove) | 2025
Jacob was another “first look” QB prospect I watched for the first time on Saturday morning coming out of Park of Cottage Grove’s class of 2025. For his age, Jacob showed some considerable fluidity in his throwing motion from the reps I watched him take in Richfield. Jacob also showed a significant ability in elevating his throw from a higher stance as the reps just kept coming for this young man. A 2025 prospect with some solidified potential as he develops thru his next several years of high school football in Cottage Grove.
Hunter Tabatt | Prior Lake | 2023
I got to watch three batches of QBs from White Bear Lake, Princeton and Prior Lake including 2023 QB prospect Hunter Tabatt. I would describe Hunter as a raw prospect however, I did really enjoy watching the jellied touch he had on the football on intermediate routes. Hunter will need to develop some strong composure on those deeper routes, but overall he was a consistent ball thrower that will have success finding the first down markers once we get outside this Spring.
Austin Randall Austin Randall 6'1" | 180 lbs | ATH Waconia | 2024 State MN | Waconia | 2024
The biggest improved skillset I watched from Austin? This kid has improved a ton from last time on elevating his ball at a better height to get it over a taller defensive line, which was a development from last time I saw he could work on with extended reps. Austin is another kid I want to see this Spring once we can get some outdoor reps with 612 Qs as I think he’s become a stockriser from when we watched him at our winter Prep Redzone Minnesota showcase to the present day.
