Those players might be playing at a smaller school, or have just started to grow into their role. Regardless, these players deserve all the attention they can get.
Here, we attempt to build an All-Underrated team in Georgia, starting on offense.
QB | Caleb McMickle – 6’2 – Fellowship Christian
After first watching his film a few months ago, I have found myself frequently revisiting it. Why? Because he is one of the best playmakers you will find at the QB position across the entire state. He also led his team to a 12-2 season by completing 62% of his passes for just over 2,000 yards and 22 TDs-7 INTs. The one thing you notice the most about McMickle is his playmaking ability outside of the pocket. The offense he plays in features a lot of rollout passes, and he is almost always on the money. He is able to escape the pocket and dodge defenders to keep plays alive. This can lead to some jaw-dropping plays, which some can be seen on is film. He can make these kinds of plays without putting the ball in harm’s way and play out of control, which is what makes him special. McMickle is playing for a 1A private school, so he will naturally fly under the radar. Still, he has one recorded offer from Mercer, so he has picked up some significant interest on the recruiting trail. All in all, you are looking at a QB that can throw the ball confidently both on the run and under pressure. After a big junior season, McMickle could see his stock rise in a big way over the next few months.
RB | Jordan Lovett – 6’0 – Statesboro
Lovett is listed as an RB on this list, where he spends most of his time on the field during games. Still, he is a true all-purpose player that can also line up at receiver and make plays in the downfield passing game. On film, you will see that Lovett is really a complete package at the RB position. He has excellent vision which allows him to find holes upfront, then his speed and explosiveness allow him to get into the second level in a hurry. He is a twitchy prospect that can change direction without losing speed. When at receiver, you can see Lovett blocking downfield and showing some promise when it comes to catching the ball. Those things can and have translated to the RB position nicely for him. Lovett has one offer from Umass, and some more could be coming very soon.
RB | Peyton Streko Peyton Streko 5'10" | 190 lbs | RB West Forsyth | 2023 State GA – 5’11 – West Forsyth
We already got the elusive style back in Jordan Lovett. Now, we are going to add a bruiser to this list. Streko played in just 5 games last season, but put up some borderline ridiculous numbers in those games. On the year, Streko compiled 800 total yards of offense and added 13 TDs. Unfortunately, Streko’s season was cut short due to injury. In January, I was able to watch Streko at the Georgia Prep Redzone Camp Showcase, and he looked to be pretty close to 100%. Streko has a nice muscular build which allows him to bounce off defenders at the point of contact. He also is an extremely patient runner that waits for his blocks to develop. What makes Streko most impressive is his explosiveness and twitchiness in space. There are very few players that can keep him in front of them, and his explosiveness allows him to break off huge game-breaking plays. His recruitment slowed down thanks to his injury, but once he gets back on the field, Streko should see some exponential growth in his stock.
WR | Mason Humphrey – 6’4 – Grayson
Humphrey has several mid-major offers, but he is still a vastly underrated recruit on the national level. His high school didn’t throw the ball around a lot last season, so he didn’t put up super eye-popping numbers. But as we know, stats only tell one side of the story. The most obvious thing you notice about Humphrey is his size. At 6’4, he offers a large catch radius for his QB and can rise over any defender on 50/50 balls to make a play. He still has some room to fill out, so he has a chance to be even bigger and more physical than he is now. To go along with his size, Humphrey is an explosive prospect that can make some plays in the short and intermediate game as well. Typically, a WR with his rare combination of speed and size should be a big-time recruit. With a productive senior season, Humphrey could be a late bloomer for PO5 schools on the recruiting trail.
WR | Darius Cannon Darius Cannon 5'10" | 170 lbs | ATH Gainesville (GA) | 2023 GA – 5’10 – Gainesville
I first saw Cannon on film a few months ago and was surprised to hear that major programs weren’t lining up for him. After seeing him in person a few times, I only believe that even more. With the ball in his hands, Cannon is a threat to score. He has some big-time speed paired with excellent footwork and twitchiness. In space, not many players can keep him in front of him. Is also a high effort player that will do whatever it takes to get into the endzone. His best quality might be his route running ability. His quick feet and change of direction allow him to win his one on ones against defenders. Some mid-majors are starting to take notice of Cannon, but he somehow still doesn’t have any offers. After transferring to play for Josh Niblett at Gainesville, Cannon should finally get the attention he deserves and see things pick up on the trail.
WR | Corey Richie – 6’0 – Stephens County
Corey Richie is an impact player wherever you line him up. Can make plays on offense, defense, and on special teams. After watching film, it is pretty clear that his future might be at the WR spot. Richie was second on his team last year in receiving with 475 yards through the air. He also averaged 15 yards per catch and found the endzone twice. The first thing you notice about Richie is his speed and explosiveness. Off the snap, he explodes off the line and uses his track level speed to get behind the defense, this gives his offense the ability to take the top off the defense and make huge plays through the air. He is also a very impressive route runner that can change directions while maintaining his speed and explosiveness. Richie has picked up some interests from mid-major and FCS programs, and another big season should make way for more schools to take notice.
