In fact, to be specific, they lost in the first round to Marietta High. Going into next season, we have high hopes that they will be in a place to compete within their division, and make another push for the playoffs. Regardless of if they are able to do so or not, we are impressed with some of the talent that the team will be returning on both sides of the ball. Below, we took some time to list some of their top returners for next year. Feel free to give them a look if you have the time, as we don’t want you to miss out when the 2022 season kicks off in a few months.
Tyler Parker- WR / QB
Without a doubt, Parker is one of the most athletically gifted players on Tift County’s roster, and we have no doubt that he will shine for his team next year. Not only is he a solid receiver, who plays with great hands, but he also is a fast player who can make plays out of the backfield when his number is called upon. Parker is a solid route runner as well, but needs a bit more polishing when separating from defenders. Regardless, his speed in itself is a weapon, and he tends to be able to pick up yards after the catch due to this fact, and we fully expect him to pick back up where he left off last year once the 2022 season begins.
Zamorian Brown- DB
Brown does a great job of sticking to his man, regardless of circumstance. Due to this, he is able to cover players very well down the field, and come up to make tackles when needed as well. Brown also does a good job at flipping his hips when covering receivers, and is able to shadow receivers well, using his burst, length, and hands to his advantage, leveraging opportunities to make plays. When making tackles, Brown shows a bit of physicality as well, as he is not afraid to take good angles, lower his shoulder, and wrap up / make a pop on contact.
Lee Jackson- DB
One of the most beneficial things for a team is when they are able to return solid DB’s. Luckily, for Tift County, they are not only returning Brown, but Lee Jackson as well. Jackson brings plenty of desired traits to the table, as he not only has good speed, but he plays with good reads, and is able to make plays on the ball. We would like to see him play with better balance, and work on his footwork, but he is decent at flipping his hips, and putting himself in position to defend contested plays. In addition to this, his long frame also helps him when the ball is in the air.
Jonta Strozier- LB
One of the things that stands out about returning LB, Jonta Strozier is the fact that he makes good heads up plays, and is able to react quickly to ball carriers movements, resulting in tackles in various parts of the field. He plays the sidelines well, and his burst allows him to position himself to make plays when his number is called. Perhaps, what we think is most beneficial about Strozier’s talent is his ability to make tackles for a loss, but also be able to play in coverage. This kind of versatility is very hard to come across, and we think this will be big for his team next year.
