More specifically, there were plenty of players who managed to shoot up the rankings who were part of the 2024 class. These players not only began to make a name for themselves, but they also helped to contribute to the overall success of their team, and the overall perception of their program from fans across the state. Below, we have noted a few of the most notable sophomore players last season who stood out when running the rock for their team.
Duke Watson- Mary Persons
By now, many of high school football, and recruiting fans have gotten to hear about Duke Watson, and the impact he has had on Mary Persons so far in his high school career. Last season, Duke led his entire class in rushing yards, as he totaled 1,716 yards, with an average of 156 yards a game. Per carry, Watson averaged about 7.5 yards, and he managed to achieve this on 230 attempts. As a result, Watson totaled about 25 TD’s, to only 1 turnover. Next season, we feel Watson should be towards the top of most watch lists, as we project him to start to become a star.
Jordan Triplett Jordan Triplett 5'11" | 210 lbs | RB Frederica Academy | 2024 State GA – Frederica Academy
The 5’10, 185 pound running back from Frederica is not a household name in the state of Georgia, but his name is beginning to pick up steam, and popularity. Last season, he was not only the 3rd ranked rusher in his class, but he also managed to help his team to a 3-1 region record. If only the overall season record was on the positive end of things, his team would have been able to reap the blessings of his total 1,699 yards on the ground last year. By the end of the season, Triplett managed to total around 169.9 yards a game, with an average of 6.5 yards a carry. This amount of success came on 261 carries throughout the duration of the season, in which he managed to cash out with 26 TD’s, to only 2 fumbles.
Brandon Hood- Eagle’s Landing Christian Academy
ELCA constantly churns out talent, and it seems to always start at a young age for this program. Brandon Hood, as a Sophomore last year, finished up the year is the 3rd ranked rusher in his class, with a total of 1,381 yards. In a 13 game span, Hood managed to average around 106.2 yards a game, and 6.1 yards a carry. These efforts also included 18 total TD’s, and around 225 carries. This in itself proves how effective Hood was on the ground, as well as with the ball in his hands as a whole. As a young contributor to his team, he accounted for a large amount of the team’s points last season, and we fully expect him to return in this capacity next year. One thing we would like to see him improve upon is the amount of times he puts the ball on the ground. Last season, he had about 6 fumbles, and we expect him to improve in this area in 2022.
Cameron Davis- Dougherty
Davis was not only effective for his team as a passer, but he was the 4th ranked rusher in his class, in the state of Georgia when it was all said and done. On the ground alone, Davis totaled around 1,363 yards, with an eventual average of 113.6 yards a game by the end of the season. These efforts helped lead his team to a 10-3 overall record, in which their last game was a close loss to Carver in the playoffs, in which they fell 16-14. Davis was so effective for his team that he managed to average slightly over 10 yards a carry on a total of 127 carries the entire year. This also came with 16 TD’s, and a longest run of 91 yards.
Joshua Adams- Bethlehem Christian Academy
Many high school football fans have not heard of Adams due to the fact that he plays for Bethlehem Christian, but that does not take away from the fact that he was the fifth leading rusher in his class last season. In 2021, as a Sophomore, Adams rushed for 1,242 yards in a 12 game span. Within these 12 games, he helped lead his team to a 7-5 record, with a 1-2 overall record in their division. Throughout the season, he accounted for 16 rushing TD’s, and only fumbled the ball twice. This is impressive considering the fact that he toted the rock a total of 199 times. Adams also had a long run of 62 yards during the season, which ultimately helped contribute to a season average of 6.2 yards a carry. In addition to this, by the end of the year, Adams had averaged around 103.5 yards a game.
