Recruiting Never Stops: Top 10 Unsigned 2022 Prospects

Many of the top 2022 prospects in the state of New Mexico have committed and/or signed with schools, a large number with New Mexico, New Mexico State, Eastern New Mexico, Western New Mexico or New Mexico Highlands. A few have signed with out-of-state schools. However, for a variety of reasons, some have still not committed or signed with a school, and are still available. Based upon our latest 2022 rankings, here are the Top 10 uncommitted 2022 prospects: <strong>[player_tooltip player_id="26233" first="Isaac" last="Hinson"], Lovington</strong>: Along with teammates WR/DB [player_tooltip player_id="134985" first="Tayten" last="Hilliard"] and LB [player_tooltip player_id="135336" first="Joseph" last="Perez"], Hinson has been offered by Western New Mexico. However, all three are currently playing basketball and are putting their football futures on hold until hoops season is completed. Lovington is one of the top teams in Class 4A hoops and could pull off the football-basketball championship double. <strong>[player_tooltip player_id="26247" first="Josh" last="Gerardo"], Volcano Vista</strong>: After throwing for 2,713 yards and 26 TD for the Hawks, Gerardo has five offers from Div. III and NAIA schools to consider (Ottawa University, Clarke College, Cornell College, Bethany, Gustavus). However, he tells Prep Redzone New Mexico that  he intends to walk-on at New Mexico, presumably as a QB. <strong>[player_tooltip player_id="135097" first="Kaden" last="Valdez"], Volcano Vista</strong>: Valdez is one of the top multi-sport athletes in the Albuquerque Metro area. In football, he caught 62 passes for nearly 1,300 yards and 12 TD. He’s currently starring for the Hawks basketball team. However, Valdez tells Prep Redzone New Mexico that he plans to attend the Colorado School of Mines in the fall and focus entirely on academics. <strong>[player_tooltip player_id="26257" first="Marco" last="Ybarra"], St. Pius X</strong>: Outstanding academically and the student body president at St. Pius X, Ybarra has numerous offers om the table to play football. He’s taking an unofficial trip to FCS University of San Diego this coming weekend (he’ll also check out D-III Chapman College), and has formally applied to three Ivy League institutions – Brown, Harvard and Yale. FCS Northern Arizona is expressing interest. Ybarra tells Prep Redzone New Mexico that he won’t make a final decision until he hears back from the Ivy League schools on his applications for admission, which should be in April. <strong>[player_tooltip player_id="26251" first="Zakk" last="Thomas"], Kirtland Central</strong>: Thomas is one of the top running backs in the Four Corners and was named Player of the Year by the <em>Farmington Times</em>. He was offered by Western New Mexico in early January but did not sign with the Mustangs. He rushed for 1,537 yards and 22 TD for the Broncos. <strong>[player_tooltip player_id="26232" first="Brandon" last="Furbee"], Farmington</strong>: After leading Farmington to an unbeaten regular season and the No. 1 seed for the Class 5A playoffs, the 6-foot-3, 225-pound Furbee has one offer from Concordia University in Michigan. As a result, he tells Prep Redzone New Mexico that he plans to go the JUCO route and attend Victor Valley College in Victorville, CA. <strong>[player_tooltip player_id="134908" first="Colton" last="Graham"], Hobbs</strong>: Graham was one of the top quarterbacks in Class 6A this past season, throwing for over 2,200 yards and 22 TD. However, he is also an outstanding baseball player and his Twitter profile says he has committed to New Mexico Junior College, which is located nearby in Hobbs. <strong>[player_tooltip player_id="26237" first="Dominic" last="Vasquez"], Cleveland</strong>: Even though he was one of the top defensive players in Class 6A this past season and a key piece of Cleveland’s 6A championship run, Vasquez does not appear to have any offers. Either that or he hasn’t announced them on social media. <strong>[player_tooltip player_id="26235" first="Fabiano" last="Valdez"], Rio Rancho</strong>: One of Rio Rancho’s top defensive players in 2021 tells Prep Redzone New Mexico that he has a PWO offer from Western New Mexico while New Mexico Highlands has expressed interest. Valdez is also a superb track and field athlete in all three throwing events, and he hopes to generate interest from colleges in track as well. <strong>[player_tooltip player_id="26241" first="Luc" last="Jaramillo"], Santa Fe</strong>: While teammates [player_tooltip player_id="26265" first="Martell" last="Mora"] (Eastern New Mexico) and [player_tooltip player_id="26271" first="Ben" last="White"] (Western New Mexico) signed letters of intent earlier this month, Jaramillo was quiet. He was offered by Midway University in Kentucky, but like Graham he is also an outstanding baseball player.
