Continue ReadingThe recruitment of several 2023 WR’s is heating up as spring ball approaches here in Mississippi. The class appears to have depth with top end Power 5 talent evident. Let’s breakdown the most recent rankings for the state’s rising senior wideouts.
By this point Suntarine Perkins Suntarine Perkins 6'1" | 190 lbs | ATH Raleigh | 2023 State MS is a household name in Mississippi football circles. The Raleigh, MS native showcases film that wows viewers. For the sake of these rankings we identify him as a WR although he shows potential across the offensive skill positions. Perkins is an athletic build with room to grow. Fires off ball well from all positions and swiftly achieves top speed. Above average speed that is sustained in the open field. Good strength combined with shiftiness. The current Ole Miss commit currently holds the title of top ranked overall prospect in the state.
Next on our list is Ayden Williams Ayden Williams 6'1" | 175 lbs | WR Ridgeland | 2023 State MS of Ridgeland. 69 receptions for nearly 1300 yards as a junior were very productive numbers. Good length in an unverified 6″3 frame with potential to continue growing into. Long-stride runner with good straight line speed and decent explosiveness off the snap. Good hands with an impressive catch radius. Future boundary receiver who can win jump balls down field and leverage himself with a physical presence which should improve. Top 5 overall player in the state with loads of Power 5 interest currently.
The next man up is Isaiah Spencer Isaiah Spencer 6'1" | 180 lbs | WR Madison Central | 2023 State MS of the reigning 6A State Champions, Madison Central. Spencer is framed to play as a slot man at the next level. Crisp and clean footwork which combines nicely with his burst off the ball. One of the top route runners in the state for this cycle. Well calculated in how he maneuvers. Athleticism and speed are both above average overall. Currently receiving Group of 5 interest although I wouldn’t rule out Power 5 coaches getting interested.
A sleeper guy to keep eyes on as we move forward is Daniel Smith Daniel Smith 6'0" | 175 lbs | WR Jackson Academy | 2023 State MS at Jackson Academy. Smith is an inside receiver prospect with some obvious rawness to his game, but potential. A bit stiff off the ball initially but shows good wiggle and athleticism from that point on. Technical route runner with good understanding of his job. Smith is a guy to know about moving forward.
Another name to track as a sleeper is Mike Williams Mike Williams 6'0" | 165 lbs | WR Natchez | 2023 State MS at Natchez. Potential as both a WR or DB although my thoughts are his game best translates to the offensive side. Slot receiver prospect with the type of athletic ability that needs the ball. Real make you miss potential. Around 6 foot which should be plenty of size. Williams holds a Southern Miss offer currently.
