With such a talent-rich state, you’re always a stone’s throw away from the next good athlete or football player. Seemingly good football players grow in each parish here, from the top to the bottom of the state we are fortunate to have such a talent-rich state with quality student-athletes. With the development of the game and raise of new offensive schemes the hard work and extra work has developed as well and in this article we will highlight a few players who have uncharted work ethic, amazing potential, and Saturday talent.

Delmore was phenomenal for the Panthers secondary last year, racking up over 40 tackles and hauling in 6 INT’s for arguably one of the best defensive backfields in the state. When asked what were his goals heading into his senior season he stated that his main focus is to continue to get better as a player, get faster, stronger and to get to the dome next year. DJ also added that he loves the contact and toughness that comes with the game of football and the character it builds and reviles. The 3 Star DB is a hard out when he’s lined up across from you for four (4) quarters. He has very good ball skills, instinctive ability to make plays on the ball on the fly, explosive, fast, quick and an all-around playmaker. The first team all-district defender was a key contributor helping the Panthers capture the district title and the Panthers overall success during the 2021 football campaign.
Javant Dunn #20
St. Helena College & Career Academy
WR / DB
Sr.
5’10”, 175
2021 Hawks football team are the pride of Greensburg, La., and St. Helena Parish. The area is known for producing very good student-athletes and excellent football players too. One of those players is Javant Dunn, the versatile WR/DB caught 57 balls for 1,042 receiving yards, 8 TD’s, and on defense add over 20 tackles, 3 INT’s and 3 forced fumbles (7 total games played 2021). Dunn’s athleticism, playmaking ability, and big plays pops on film. He has the ability to turn something routine into a big play. The Hawks were frightening explosive when #20 was lined up out wide. Dunn being a multi-sport athlete has contributed to his overall play and has guided is development into a lethal weapon on offense and defense.
Devonric Corral #21

Corral and the Panthers had a remarkable season, entering the LHSAA Playoffs as a No. 2 seed and advancing to the 3rd round. The senior to be hopes to be a mainstay in the Panthers defensive secondary this upcoming year. The 5’9” DB may not have the prototypical measurables but has desirable work ethic and requires dedication to play at any level. Corral stated that he will use this off-season to get better and improve his overall game, to definitely get stronger and faster, as well as being a leader the team can count and depend on. One thing he is doing is playing 7 on 7 (Gunslingers) and will use it to get better at his position, a position that he has played since 9 years old, running around playing youth football. Lastly, he added that he’s looking forward to starting for this upcoming season, help getting Parkway back into the playoffs, where I feel like this is our best year to compete for state.
Collectively these young men are amazingly football players but more impressive is that they are exceptional students as well. With GPA’s above 3.5 they are superb examples of student-athletes and the next generation of football players and community leaders.
