Continue ReadingThe state of South Carolina is littered with talent, but the talent in York and Lancaster Counties stands out just a little bit more than other areas of the state. Over the coming weeks and months, we will be highlighting unranked players in the 2023, 2024 and 2025 classes in this new series.
Last week, we highlighted five players who have the capability to play on offense and defense.
This week, we’ve got two defensive ends who are difficult to block one-on-one, a running back who can break through initial contact and a wide receiver who is a home run threat every time he gets the ball. And we’ll also touch one of the top long snappers in the 2023 class. Let’s dive into Week 2:
Omari Davis (@Omari_Davis12), DE, Clover (@Clover_Football)
Davis is difficult to block at his defensive end position as he pursues with a purpose. From what we saw on his film, he easily sheds blocks to get into the backfield, sometimes as the ball is being snapped. He is a lineman that plays under control and doesn’t overrun the play and is fundamentally gap sound.
AJ Miller (@Ajmiller92), DE, South Pointe (@footballsphs)
Miller has violent hands combined with great body control to fight off offensive lineman in the running game. There were times on his film where he slammed the running back in the backfield before he could get his momentum going. He finished with 14.5 sacks, 69 tackles, 9 TFLs, 1 forced fumble and 12 quarterback hurries. Miller is a great student with a 3.42 GPA.
Caleb Sims (@Calebsims34), RB, South Pointe (@footballsphs)
Sims is difficult to tackle once he gets a full head of steam. He breaks through the initial wave of defenders with his excellent agility and can turn a 5 to 10 yard run into a long touchdown run, as we saw on his film. He can catch the ball out of the backfield and make defenders miss. He is an excellent student with a 4.1 GPA.
Demari Kendrick (@KendrickDemari), WR, South Pointe (@footballsphs)
When Kendrick has the ball, he is a home run threat at his slot receiver position. He runs his routes at full speed and can turn a quick bubble screen to a touchdown or he can stretch the field vertically and separate himself from the coverage. He is a great student in the classroom with a 3.3 GPA.
Gannon Burt (@GannonBurt), L/S, Fort Mill (@FMHSFOOTBALL22)
The snaps from Burt come out smooth and clean. He has great body control to where the snap won’t ricochet or come out wobbly so the punter can clearly catch the snap and boot it to where he needs it to. Burt is one of the top snappers in the country and is an excellent student with a 4.81 GPA.
