The 2024 class keeps looking better and better! The depth is really starting to add up and we're just getting started. Today, we’re analyzing another set of receivers in the class who are worth keeping an eye on moving forward.
Mylan Graham - New Haven - WR - 6'1" 175lbs
Graham is a fantastic athlete who is starting to get a full understanding of WR at the varsity level. He's got really quick feet and is able to create separation at the line. Graham gets off the line without much-wasted movement and is always on time with the snap count. He's New Haven's deep threat and his speed is unmatched. He can absolutely fly and defenders can barely keep up with him. He's able to get under the ball and once it's in his hands, he's gone. Graham has great tracking skills when the ball is in the air and is able to make the adjustments to bring the ball in. He's a very smart receiver. He shows late hands and doesn't tip off the defender the ball is near. He's also got the ability to jump out of the gym and make contested catches downfield. If he's not running down the field, he's either running screens or being used in motion. New Haven disguises stuff very well and they send him in motion quite often. They pitch it to him or throw it to him just enough when in motion to keep the defense honest. New Haven understands his strengths and uses them to their advantage. They get the ball in his hands in space and he's going to make guys miss. He makes defenders look silly and before they realize it he's 10-yards downfield. Graham also terrorizes the opposing teams on Special Teams as well. He returns kicks and he's even more dangerous there. He's already taken a few kicks back to the house in his career and I imagine he's going to add more by the time he's done. I haven't chuckled and said "wow" at someone's tape this much in a long time. I would like to see him bulk up a touch during his High School career, but that's not going to be an issue. By the time he graduates, Graham should be able to pick from pretty much any school he wants.
Joe Syrus - Fishers - WR - 6'1" 180lbs
Syrus is a big-framed WR who is able to go up and get contested balls. He's able to high-point them and brings down the ball with both hands. He's able to fight through contact and still bring down the ball as well. Syrus has a decent jumping ability and with his lengthy frame, is able to out jump pretty much everyone he comes across. Syrus doesn't run a complete route tree, but the routes he does run are solid. He's able to stick his foot in the ground and make hard cuts. He does have a false step at the start of each rep I'd like to see get cleaned up. It's just a minor wasted movement nitpick really. If he's able to clean that up it'll just help him close ground faster and get him open a touch quicker. Syrus isn't the fastest receiver but he has long strides and is still rather quick. He's a RedZone nightmare for defenses. His ability to win those contested catches and high-point the ball is a big reason why. Defenses that leave him 1-on-1 outwide find out rather quickly when they get down there why that's a bad idea. To beat Syrus you need to jam him at the line and have a defender over the top. He's able to win right at the line or down the field. He's a true X receiver and as he develops more and more of the offense could go through him. Over the next few years, if Syrus is able to keep developing and puts the work in, he could easily become swarmed with offers from schools in every division.
Hayden Summers - F.J. Reitz - WR - 6'1" 160lbs
Summers is an up-and-coming WR who is getting better each week. While he does play FS on defense, his ability on offense is just as notable. He's listed at 160lbs but looks bigger than that and is able to break tackles at a high rate for a WR. He's a tough runner who is going to fight for extra yards after the catch. He'll put his head down and bulldoze for a few more before going down. He's also agile enough to make some guys miss or throw them by him while he doesn't lose much momentum. He's got fantastic speed and while he is able to break long plays, it's not a consistent trait yet. Summers had a 73-yard Touchdown this past season which is a good sign he can continue developing into a deep threat. Summers doesn't run the fullest route tree but overall, he's fairly decent for his age and is able to create some separation. Summers is also a high motor player who gives 100% on every rep. He's a willing blocker in the running game as well. He does a ton of things well and is only getting more confident each week. When the ball is thrown his way, Summers is going to fight for the ball and isn't afraid of contact or taking a hit. There's a lot to like with Summers and where he can be when he graduates. If he's able to develop and puts the work in when he graduates he'll be able to sift through offers and pick the best fit for him.
Amari Hope - Bosse - WR - 5'7" 145lbs
Hope is a jittery player who is hard to bring down. He typically operates out of the slot and gets the ball in his hands with room to run. He's able to make guys miss and can make defenders look silly. Hope is also able to create separation right off the line. He's got quick feet and doesn't waste a ton of movement of time getting downfield. He's decent with downfield throws as well. He's able to adjust and make the catch most times. When he's running his shorter slot routes, he knows how to get open and where to go to find the open zone. He's one of those guys who just knows how to get open. He's got soft hands and watches the ball in with both hands before turning upfield. While he's best in space, Amari has no issue catching the ball in traffic either. He's a willing blocker in the running game but isn't quite as effective as you'd hope. Hope is on the slender side right now but over the next few years, you can expect him to put on some weight. Ideally, he's able to bulk up and eliminate the weight concern. He has fantastic speed and once he's in the second level, defenses hold their breath. He's got the speed to turn the corner and once he's in the open field he isn't being run down. Amari also returns kicks for Bosse and is just as much of a threat there as he is in the slot. I can easily see Hope becoming an elite Slot WR during the remainder of his High School Career. If Hope is able to develop and works hard over the coming years, he'll have more offers than he'll know what to do with.
