With the 2021 season, in the books, it is time to look ahead to next year. In 2022, some of the state’s unheralded players will be making their way to the forefront. Over the next few days, we will be taking time to look at some of these underrated prospects. We start today with the quarterbacks in the Class of 2023. These are student-athletes who showcased their talents as juniors and will be looking to make a tremendous jump as seniors. [player_tooltip player_id="185229" first="Tyler" last="Adkins"], 6’0, 175 pounds, Martinsville [player_tooltip player_id="185229" first="Tyler" last="Adkins"] put together an outstanding junior season, and he will be looking to take the Martinsville offense to new heights next fall. Adkins completed 220/324 passes and nearly 2,300 passing yards. He posted a completion percentage just shy of 68 percent. Adkins threw an astounding 28 touchdown passes this past season. He threw 14 interceptions but did also add a rushing touchdown. Teams need to look out for [player_tooltip player_id="185229" first="Tyler" last="Adkins"] next year. [player_tooltip player_id="185194" first="Riley" last="Buroff"], 6’4, 175 pounds, Churubusco [player_tooltip player_id="185194" first="Riley" last="Buroff"] showcased the arm talent necessary to be a great quarterback this past year. Buroff throws a solid deep ball, hitting receivers in stride and giving defensive backs all kinds of problems. He does a fantastic job of leading the receiver on his passes. Buroff has good mobility. He does well on rollouts, and he is a threat to take off and pick up yards with his legs. He is good at keeping plays alive and keeping his eyes down field as he does so. Buroff can make all of the throws, giving offensive coordinators the luxury of using the entire playbook. For the year, Buroff completed 44/71 passes for 752 yards. He threw eight touchdowns and five interceptions while adding close to 500 yards on the ground as well as ten rushing touchdowns. Buroff is an extremely versatile player. He is also a dependable cornerback who recorded three interceptions this past season. On top of that, he also punted the ball 15 times, averaging close to 38 yards per boot and pinning opponents inside their own 20 six times. His special teams threat extended to the kickoff return-game. He returned five kicks for close to 200 yards. [player_tooltip player_id="185238" first="Luke" last="Haupert"], 6’1, 180 pounds, Snider [player_tooltip player_id="185238" first="Luke" last="Haupert"] was a crucial part of the Snider offense last year. Haupert has a good arm and solid accuracy to match. He demonstrates good pocket presence and the ability to get the ball out quickly, neutralizing the opposing pass rush. Haupert completed 85 of his 131 pass attempts for over 900 yards. He threw eight touchdowns and five interceptions. Haupert also added five rushing touchdowns to his resume. Look for big things to come from [player_tooltip player_id="185238" first="Luke" last="Haupert"] next season. [player_tooltip player_id="185242" first="Brady" last="Krueper"], 6’1, 200 pounds, Elkhart [player_tooltip player_id="185242" first="Brady" last="Krueper"] gave Elkhart fans plenty to be excited about heading into next season. As a junior, Krueper showed the ability to get the ball out quickly and make good throws in rhythm. Even when he does have to hold on to the ball a little bit longer, it is worth the wait as he throws a good deep ball. He has also shown the ability to make good, on-time throws to the outside. This past season, Krueper was 94/183 for over 1,300 yards through the air. Krueper threw seven touchdowns and seven interceptions last year. [player_tooltip player_id="185242" first="Brady" last="Krueper"] has the potential to turn heads in his senior season.
