2023 Defensive Backs Breakdowns

The players rankings were recently updated by the staff.  There were 14 players included in the defensive backs group.  I am going to review 5 of the defensive backs. <strong>[player_tooltip player_id="142198" first="Noah" last="Gist"], 6’3" 170, Lexington HS, (No. 1 DB, No. 49 Overall)</strong>.  Noah reads the play and reacts quickly to close in and make the stop.  He runs well in the open field and covers a lot of ground to stop the ball carrier.  Noah is an exceptional defender in man-coverage.  He makes a high number of pass deflections, intercepting often.  Noah is a physical tackler who displays good technique.  He will continue to improve his skill set during off-season training.  [player_tooltip player_id="142198" first="Noah" last="Gist"] participation in Summer Prospect Camps will generate recruiting interest. <strong>[player_tooltip player_id="47087" first="Cameron" last="Williams"], 5’9" 175, Southeast Guilford HS, (No. 2 DB, No. 54 Overall)</strong>.  Cameron displays good speed and lateral movement to close quickly on ball carrier to make the stop.  He displays good technique on solo tackles in man-coverage.  Cameron finished the season with 27 total tackles, 2 tackles for losses.  He plays on both sides of the ball and is an offensive threat at wide receiver.  Cameron will continue to improve his skill set during off-season training.  [player_tooltip player_id="47087" first="Cameron" last="Williams"] participation in Summer Prospect Camps should jump-start the recruiting interest for him. <strong>[player_tooltip player_id="144939" first="Deshaun" last="Whitmire"], 6’1" 180, Asheville HS, (No. 3 DB, No. 70 Overall)</strong>.  Deshaun displays good reaction to the play and covers ground quickly to close in on the ball carrier for the stop.  He displays good technique on solo tackles in the open field.  Deshaun is a solid defender in man-coverage, deflecting passes, intercepting often.  He finished the season with 7 interceptions.  Deshaun will continue to improve his skill set during off-season training.  [player_tooltip player_id="144939" first="Deshaun" last="Whitmire"] participation in Summer Prospect Camps will generate recruiting interest. <strong>[player_tooltip player_id="144940" first="John" last="Amerson"], 5’8" 160, Clayton HS, (No. 9 DB, No. 136 Overall)</strong>.  John displays patience to let the play develop.  He reacts quickly and covers a lot of ground to make the stop.  John displays good technique on solo tackles in the open field.  He plays at a high-energy level and with aggression on every play.  John will continue to improve his skill set during off-season training.  [player_tooltip player_id="144940" first="John" last="Amerson"] participation in Summer Prospect Camps will generate recruiting interest. <strong>[player_tooltip player_id="136320" first="Langston" last="Davis"], 5’10" 160, Middle Creek HS, (No. 10 DB, 137 Overall)</strong>.  Langston displays quick reaction to the play to make the stop.  He covers a lot of ground quickly to deliver a physical tackle.  Langston displays good technique on solo tackles in the open field.  He is a solid defender in man-coverage, deflecting a high number of passes.  Langston will continue to improve during off-season training.  [player_tooltip player_id="136320" first="Langston" last="Davis"] participation in Summer Prospect Camps will generate recruiting interest.
