As the 2022 and 2023 recruiting cycles wind down and rise to the forefront, respectively, a few of Louisiana’s top 2024 prospects have started leading the way for their class with early college offers.
Here are 10 of the young standouts blazing helping blaze that trail with some Power Five attention and options already in play.
<strong>[player_tooltip player_id="285191" first="Xavier" last="Atkins"] — 6-1, 200 LB — Jonesboro-Hodge</strong>
Grambling State and Missouri became the first two colleges to extend scholarship offers this winter, but LSU, Oklahoma State and other Power Five programs have also shown early interest for the sideline-to-sideline speedy, "freak" athlete of a linebacker following his ridiculous 219-tackle sophomore season. The fast and physical Atkins’ impressive physical attributes immediately jump out, but his drive, work ethic and film study behind the scenes also make him prime to continue developing his craft at a high level.
<strong>[player_tooltip player_id="285196" first="Edward" last="Brown"] — 5-11, 170 DB — Edna Karr</strong>
Arkansas extended the first offer to Edna Karr’s multisport standout — a particularly good intriguing option for a football and baseball prospect. Watching the talented young athlete’s development as a safety, pitcher and shortstop and how he prioritizes the opportunities could be an interesting storyline by the time senior year rolls around.
<strong>[player_tooltip player_id="139471" first="Cullen" last="Charles"] — 6-0, 180 ATH — St. Martinville</strong>
One of the next top prospects of the Lafayette area’s strong run of talent has already picked up offers from UCF, Tulane and Southern Miss and interest from some notable Power Five programs, including Clemson. He put some enticing highlights on film this fall as a deep threat opposite 2023 standout [player_tooltip player_id="138440" first="Harvey" last="Broussard"] or in the backfield as a wildcat quarterback. Charles is built solidly to handle physical play, but also consistently shows vertical speed to stretch the defense and the ability to cut on a dime and free himself over the middle of the field.
<strong>[player_tooltip player_id="285192" first="Kolaj" last="Cobbins"] — 6-3, 200 LB — Destrehan</strong>
Florida State, Purdue, Ole Miss, Tulane and Houston recently kicked off the recruitment of the long, quick Destrehan pass-rusher in exciting fashion. Cobbins is a nightmare for opposing quarterbacks and blockers with a burst and gear off the edge or beating attempted double teams through their gap that lineman struggle to halt or even slow. And when a blocker does manage to get in front of him, he’s able to quickly shed them aside with his strength and hands.
<strong>[player_tooltip player_id="139491" first="Wallace" last="Foster"] IV — 5-11, 160 DB — Warren Easton</strong>
The Warren Easton cornerback was one of the first few 2024 prospects around the state to start blowing up on the recruiting trail last winter with LSU, Mississippi State, Tulane, Florida State, Florida, Texas, Kansas and Hawaii. And Nebraska, UCF, Memphis, Purdue, Texas A&M, Miami and Ole Miss have joined more recently following a solid sophomore campaign in all three phrases.
<strong>[player_tooltip player_id="285269" first="De’Myrion" last="Johnson"] — 6-3, 280 DL — Westgate</strong>
The big defensive tackle has been one of the more recent prospects in the 2024 class to start gaining traction on the recruiting trail with Nebraska and Ole Miss offers. Johnson provided 67 tackles, including 36 for loss and six sacks, as a disruptive force in the middle of a stout and stingy Westgate defense that helped lead the way to the school’s first state championship.
<strong>[player_tooltip player_id="285194" first="Trey’Dez" last="Green"] — 6-7, 210 ATH — East Feliciana</strong>
The big East Feliciana athlete has burst onto both the football and basketball recruiting radars with offers the past few months from Houston, LSU, Texas A&M, Purdue, ULM, Southern and Grambling State spanning from September into the past week.
<strong>[player_tooltip player_id="139477" first="Wardell" last="Mack"] — 6-1, 170 DB — John Ehret</strong>
Tulane, Mississippi State and Alabama extended Mack’s first scholarship offers in a two-day span at the end of January, and the John Ehret cornerback has quickly become one of Louisiana’s hottest names in the class.
<strong>[player_tooltip player_id="139490" first="Keidrick" last="Richardson"] — 5-11, 220 LB — De La Salle</strong>
LSU put "Paw Paw" on the recruiting map with an offer before his freshman year at De La Salle, and he’s been a varsity starter and standout throughout his two underclassman seasons since then — including an all-state sophomore season in which he recorded 95 tackles and also showcased more of his ability to drop back and play in space.
<strong>[player_tooltip player_id="139482" first="Tylen" last="Singleton"] — 6-2, 200 DB — Many</strong>
The Many standout was another of Louisiana’s trailblazers in the 2024 class with early scholarship offers following a freshman season he helped cap with a pick-six and Outstanding Player honors in his Tigers’ Class 2A state championship. Mississippi State, Arkansas and LSU were the first to that party, with Texas A&M, Louisiana Tech, ULM and Ole Miss among the more recent additions to his list.
