This is due to the fact that it is a bit of a difficult task to achieve, and that the stars have to almost align very well for this to occur at a high level for a player. On the other side of this achievement is a large amount of hard work, and the relentless pursuit of opposing passers, as well as the footing, and technique to make this happen at a high level. In 2022, some of the top returning sack leaders from last season will be returning, and we will also be looking forward to see if they can replicate this same kind of success.
Javeon Miller- Creekside
During the 2021 season, Miller was third in the entire state in sacks, with a total of 22 sacks by the end of the season. This comes with multiple offers from mid tier programs, in which we also expect to see grow by the time next season comes around. Impressive enough, Miller also averaged about 1.6 sacks a game last year, with a total loss of 70+ yards for the opposing team by the end of the season. If this doesn’t make you want to check him out next season, we don’t know what will.
Kayden McDonald Kayden McDonald 6'0" | 290 lbs | DL North Gwinnett | 2023 State GA – North Gwinnett
At this point of his high school career, McDonald is one of the most notable defensive players in the entire state, and comes in as a 4 star as well. In 2021, McDonald totaled 19 sacks, while also averaging 1.6 sacks a game. These numbers placed him at the 4th ranked sack leading spot in Georgia due to the fact that he accomplished this within a 12 game span. Next year, we expect McDonald to be able to have another big year, and to be able to continue to be a key player in his team’s defense, making big plays when needed, while also being able to help change the tide of games with his stellar play.
Clark Jackson- Aquinas
Aquinas High School, out of the Augusta, GA area, witnessed Jackson total 17 sacks last season over the span of only 11 games. Jackson, who did so as a Junior, ranked 6th in the entire state in sacks, and will likely be a key defensive player for his team next year. Jackson averaged 1.5 sacks a game last year, and we expect him to rack up just as many sacks, if not more, in 2022, as he will likely begin to gain more attention in the recruiting game.
Dion Crawford- Collins Hill
Crawford was an instrumental part of Collins Hill’s success last season during their championship run, and the sacks he totaled, and amount of times he pressured the QB were all big in putting his surrounding defense in position to make big time stops, and cause turnovers. By the time the season came to an end, Crawford had a total of 14.5 sacks over a 15 game span. This total put him at an average of 1 sack a game. He also totaled around 22 QB hurries last year as well, which we certainly expect to increase next season, along with the high level of offers he is currently receiving.
Zachariah Keith Zachariah Keith 6'5" | 240 lbs | DL Douglas County | 2023 State GA – Douglas County
Even though Keith does not have much national attention, some statewide fans may be aware of the impact that he had for Douglas County last season. As a Junior, he not only totaled 14 sacks, but he did so in a 12 game span, also placing him at 14th overall on the 2021 sack leaders list. By the end of the season, he averaged around 1.2 sacks a game, with around 90 yards lost due to the sacks he achieved. With this, Keith also had his fair share of QB hurries, which only further changed the tide of the game for his team.
