Aguirre, our No. 1 running back in the just released 2024 New Mexico rankings, has transferred to Cleveland High School for his junior year following two seasons at Albuquerque High School.
After his family moved to Rio Rancho, he enrolled at Cleveland High School during the holiday break, and has already become entrenched in the Storm program.
“The time I’ve spent there has already shown how great the program is,” Aguirre told Prep Redzone New Mexico. “I’m very excited for the season.”
Aguirre will combine with QB/WR Evan Wysong Evan Wysong 5'10" | 165 lbs | QB Cleveland | 2023 State NM , RB Josh Perry Josh Perry 5'10" | 185 lbs | RB Cleveland | 2023 State NM and WR Nic Trujillo Nic Trujillo 6'1" | 160 lbs | WR Cleveland | 2023 State NM to give Cleveland as fearsome a foursome on offense as anyone in the state. And promising 2024 QB Elijah Brody Elijah Brody 6'3" | 185 lbs | QB West Mesa | 2024 State NM should see increased playing time next season after getting his feet wet in 2021.
Aguirre is currently competing with the newly organized New Mexico Legacy 7×7 team as a running back. But he showed at Albuquerque High that he can play slot receiver as well.
The 5-foot-10, 175-pound Aguirre rushed for 878 yards and 9 touchdowns on 132 carries in nine games as a sophomore for Albuquerque High, establishing himself as one of the top running backs in the Metro area. He averaged close to 100 yards rushing per game.
Prep Redzone New Mexico named Aguirre as the 2021 Team MVP for Albuquerque High.
He also caught 11 passes for 157 yards as he amassed over 1,000 total yards last fall. As a freshman last spring, Aguirre revealed his potential by rushing for 317 yards and 3 TD in just 3 games.
As a result, he heads into his junior year with 1,195 career rushing yards. Now he’ll perform on a bigger stage.
