At one time, Stetson Bennett was in the shoes of every small town Georgia QB. Here, we made it our mission to take a look at some 2022 signal-callers in small towns in Georgia.
Logan Helcher | 6’1 | Union County
Helcher is one of the most productive senior QBs in the northern part of the state, and you can see why. As a runner, Helcher is extremely effective. He has great speed and his quick cuts allow him to make defenders miss. He plays with high instincts in the pocket and outside the pocket when he is scrambling. As a passer, he is a quick decision-maker with a lightning-fast release. Once he finds an open man, he gets the ball out quickly and usually delivers right on the money. Helcher is a high IQ player who can hurt you on the ground and in the air. Plenty to like about him when it comes to film.
Zach Holtzclaw | 5’10 | Dawson County
Holtzclaw likely gets overlooked because of his size, but he lets his game do most of the talking. On film, Holtzclaw has one of the best deep balls we have seen in the entire state for the 2022 class. He has a super live arm and can put some nice touch on the ball. He throws it to where only his receivers have a chance to bring it down. He can throw in the face of pressure and off his back foot without sacrificing any amount of arm strength. When the play breaks down, Holtzclaw can get outside of the pocket and throw on the run with ease. Another high IQ player who has several small school offers, and deservedly so.
Maurice Fench | 5’10 | Heard County
Fench is a QB that brings a lot of tools to the table. First off, he is definitely a gunslinger-type QB. He can put the ball in harm’s way, but he can also make some eye-popping plays too. Fench has a rocket attached to his arm, which allows him to make any throw on the field. Whether he is inside the pocket or scrambling, he always keeps his eyes downfield and is trying to make a big play. With his legs, he is a very fast and fluid runner. Not many defenders can bring him down in space. Fench is an intriguing QB prospect that can bring a lot to the table, and his film backs that up.
Zane Touchton | 6’0 | Pelham
Touchton is another south Georgia slinger that brings an interesting skill set to the table. When I say “slinger”, I mean it. He has a super strong arm and can fit the ball into tight windows. Even while he is forcing some throws, he has great mechanics in the pocket and has some big-time arm talent. When he extends the play with his legs, he keeps his eyes downfield and waits for his receivers to run open. You can never go wrong with a strong-armed QB that can throw off multiple different platforms, and that is exactly what Touchton brings to the table.
Luke Bornhorst | 6’1 | Chestatee
Bornhorst is a productive QB that does a lot of things well. He has great pocket awareness for starters, his footwork in the pocket is always in rhythm and his entire body is controlled. He rarely tries to force throws or make plays that aren’t there, he is a smart decision-maker that can take care of the football. He puts some nice touch on the ball, and knows where to put it so where only his receivers can come down with it. Outside of the pocket, he keeps his eyes downfield and can deliver strikes on the run. A consistent playmaker who has all the intangibles.
