Here are a few small school QBs in Georgia ready to make a huge mark their senior season.
Caleb McMickle | 6’2 | Fellowship Christian
McMickle led one of the best 1A Private schools in the state to a 12 win season, and he did it with his arm. McMickle threw for over 2,000 yards and added 22 TDs on a 62% completion percentage. The best way to describe McMickle’s game would be “improviser”. He is a calm and collected signal-caller in the pocket, but he does a lot of damage when the play breaks down. When he scrambles, he keeps his eyes downfield and has the intent of throwing the ball. As a passer, he has a very strong arm and can throw well on the run and off-platform. His ability to mix up arm angles allows him to thread the ball into tight windows. McMickle can fit into any offense, and it will be interesting to see where his development takes him in 2022.
Jamal Sanders | 5’9 | Brooks County
Sanders doesn’t tower over anyone at 5’9, but that should be the last of people’s worries after Sanders led Brooks County to a state championship win. Sanders did it with his arm and legs. He threw for over 2000 yards, and rushed for over 500. On the entire year, he finished with 41 total touchdowns. Sanders is an elusive and patient runner, which makes him a key part in the run game, which is mostly designed runs for him. As a passer, he shows great mechanics and footwork in the pocket, and does a great job of throwing his receivers open. After a productive season that ended with a championship win, Sanders is absolutely someone you need to have on your radar.
Geimere Latimer | 5’10 | Sandy Creek
Latimer accounted for over 3000 yards of offense as he lead Sandy Creek to a 9-1 regular season. He was most productive through the air, where he totaled over 2700 passing yards and added 30 TDs. As a runner, he is extremely twitchy and difficult to bring down in space. If he has any room at all to run, he is a touchdown threat. As a passer, he is extremely accurate throwing on the run and off-platform. When he scrambles out of the pocket, he scrambles to throw. His playmaking ability makes him a candidate to play at multiple positions at the next level, which will make him even more highly sought after.
Ben Stowe | 6’0 | Stephens County
On film, Stowe is a fluid and decisive decision-maker at the QB position. A tough competitor that can stand in the pocket and make throws even while getting hit. Stowe showed some serious improvement from 2020 to 2021, so he is on pace to have a breakout season of sorts his senior season. Is not a great athlete nor has a spectacular arm, but he is a gamer. What he lacks in athleticism and arm talent, he makes up for in his ability to go through his progressions and dissect the defense. With another year of improvement, Stowe could be an intriguing player to monitor.
Logan Hickman | 6’0 | Mary Persons
Hickman is not an athletic freak with a big arm. But he is efficient and accurate downfield, which can be supported with a 61% completion rate. He also added 15 passing TDs to 6 INTs last season. Hickman is set to become a 4-year starter on varsity, and his experience is evident when you watch the film. Is smart and decisive with the ball and hits his receivers in stride. He is also just as comfortable outside of the pocket as he is inside the pocket. Has a very impressive deep ball. Puts a ton of air under the ball to allow his receivers to run under it. A big part of a QBs job is to elevate the play of everyone around him, and Hickman does that. Hickman has improved each year, and another year with added improvement could put him on the map.
