The Northwest District is comprised of mostly 1A teams in northern Minnesota and had some top notch football throughout the season.
QB – Payton Rondestvedt (Wadena-Deer Creek High School)
Rondestvedt led the district in completions, touchdowns and yards passing for the 2021 season. Rondestvedt has elite arm talent to all 3 levels of the field and does a great job with accuracy down the field. This season he also showed improved ability in running the ball as he averaged over 5yds a carry on the season.
RB – Sam Gapp (Polk County West)
Gapp is an electric back who led the district with an insane 11.9 yards per rush and almost 1200yds rushing. Gapp has great wiggle in the open field and is a home run threat any time the ball is in his hand.
RB – Beau Fetting (Ada-Borup High School)
Fetting is a bruiser of a running back who does most of his damage with tough runs between the tackles. He has more than enough speed to breakaway from 2nd and third level defenders. Fetting scored 20 TD’s this past fall which led the district. He also had 1000yds rushing good for a 7.8 yds/carry.
WR – Carson Travis (Pine River-Backus High School)
Travis averaged 17.4 yards per catch on the season and was a constant big play threat for the Tigers. Travis finished the year with 4 TD’s, good for 3rd in the district. Travis is a big body WR who is physical at the catch point and does a nice job of winning 50/50 balls.
WR – Josh Dykhoff (Wadena-Deer Creek High School)
Dykhoff led all WR’s in yards, receptions and TD’s for the 2021 season. Operating as the feature target in Wadena’s pass happy attack, Dykhoff continually threatened teams down the field and was a threat to score any time he caught a pass.
OL – Braeden Peterson (New York Mills High School)
Peterson paved the way for the New York Mills rushing attack this past fall. He does a great job of moving defenders out of their gap and has a nasty streak that shows up consistently on tape. Peterson is a powerful run blocker who shows the necessary feet to be good in pass protection when asked.
OL – Justin Littlewolf (Mahnomen/Waubun)
Littlewolf is able to impose his will on defenders, utilizing his large frame and impressive strength to clear the way for the Thunderbirds option attack. Littlewolf is a thickly built interior OL who projects as really good OG at the next level. He will have to improve his foot speed against smaller DL but his play strength should continue to be a strength at the collegiate level.
