Here are some of the state’s leading returning receivers in 5A…
The leading receiver in all of 5A last year, the East Georgia junior from the Augusta area couldn’t be stopped last year, catching an impressive 77 passes for 1,326 yards and 8 touchdowns, proving to be a big-play waiting to happen every time he has the ball in his hands. He’s got great size at 6-foot-3 190-pounds, and while he uses his size to his advantage more often than not, he also has some explosiveness to him and runs well for his size. He picks up yards in a hurry and can out-run defenders once he gets a head of steam. He can beat defenses in the screen game and proved to be a down-field threat as well. He also excelled in the return game, adding 316 kick return yards. He even lined up at running back at times around the goal-line as he rushed for six more touchdowns on the ground. In total, Leverett had 1,778 total yards and 16 touchdowns as a junior last fall.
Zion Ragins Zion Ragins 5'11" | 165 lbs | WR Jones County | 2024 State GA – ATH – Jones County
One of the the fastest prospects in the state, the young freshman from Middle Georgia is an absolute stud on the football field and an explosive playmaker at wide receiver. The track star claims a 4.31 40-yard dash and is coming off a state championship performance in the GHSA track and field meet last summer. Ragins won the 5A state championship in both the 100 and 200 meter dash, but he’s more than that. Ragins is a football player who makes an impact with more than his speed. Ragins has great hands, can change directions with ease, and shows great body control when going for the football. The playmaker already caught 63 passes last fall for 1,062 yards and 9 touchdowns in 13 games.
Damare Franklin – Veterans
Still an unknown prospect, there haven’t been many more reliable offensive players in Middle Georgia than Franklin this past fall The quick, twitchy receiver was the go-to playmaker for the Veterans offense, reaching 100+ receiving yards in six games. His biggest game of the season was against Jones County where he caught 10 passes for 203 yards and one touchdown. He’s shown great hands and the ability to pick up big yards with each grab, averaging 16 yards per reception this season. On the season, Franklin has caught 63 passes for 1,001 yards and five touchdowns.
Quentin Thomas – Eagles Landing
Another do-it-all receiver from the Atlanta area, Thomas was extremely productive as a junior and was one of the top junior receivers in all of 5A. He’s a quick, shifty pass catcher who can also be a physical run blocker on the outside. He’s great in jump-ball situations and shows good body control when he’s in the air and attacking the football. He can pick up big yards after the catch and get behind defenses if they get caught looking into the backfield. Last fall, Thomas caught 46 passes for just under 900 yards and three touchdowns.
