Continue ReadingThe opening weekend of 7v7 action began well for the Tennessee based all-star Dream Team as they finished their slate in Miami at 3-1, losing in their lone playoff game on Sunday but they did some good things, including several strong individual performances.
Here we take a look at the prospects who had outstanding weekends and really took advantage of the competition down on South Beach at the Battle 7v7 Invitational.
1. (RB) DeSean Bishop DeSean Bishop 5'11" | 190 lbs | RB Karns | 2023 State TN – Karns
– The nation’s leading returning rusher took full advantage of his time down in Miami as Bishop displayed that he is more than just a runner but a very good pass catcher as well. Bishop was the highest producing offensive player with TD’s for Dream Team this past weekend scoring 5 times, doing so by making several tough catches. The Beavers running back is also well put together and used his body multiple times to shield himself away from the defender, hauling the pass for scores. Performances in the offseason like this could make more Power Five programs get on board with the top in-state back for the 2023 class.
2. (TE) Ty Lockwood Ty Lockwood 6'5" | 225 lbs | TE Independence | 2023 State TN – Independence (Ohio St. Commit)
– Unguardable and unstoppable, Lockwood was a mismatch problem for defenders this past weekend in Miami as the future Ohio St. Buckeye dominated the opposition and showed why he is a future Power Five player. Lockwood is a big dude with a physical nature about himself that smaller defenders had a very hard time dealing with. He would punish the opposition then use his deceptive athleticism and speed to break open. The Eagles star pass catcher was a good safety valve on offense that continued to put the offense in position to score. Lockwood is a complete tight end that could step onto the field in Columbus on Day 1 and immediately compete for a starting role with the Buckeyes.

3. (WR)
Adarius Redmond

Powell | 2023

– Powell
– After spending quality time around this East Tennessee receiver this past weekend, I can tell you Redmond is legit and sports the Power Five college traits and abilities that play up on the next level. The very 1st game of the tourney, Redmond stood out by scoring multiple times and doing so by using his speed to get by defenders and then using his athleticism to come down with the catch. The Panthers wideout looks the part too as he sports a nice physical body along with long arms and a frame to take on more weight. He was easily one of the best playmakers from the weekend and a receiver that consistently gave defensive backs problems.
4. (LB) Ethan Crisp Ethan Crisp 6'3" | 205 lbs | LB Mt. Juliet | 2023 State TN – Mt. Juliet
– If you are a college coach and you haven’t recruited or offered this Middle Tennessee defensive prospect yet then you’re missing the boat because this is one of the best linebackers in the entire country. Down in Miami at the Battle 7v7 Invitational, Crisp was one of the best overall performers not just from the Dream Team but from the entire tournament too. The biggest trait that stood out about Crisp to not just me but every other scout in attendance was his speed and ability to cover out in space. He was hardly ever out of position and always challenged anything that came his way. Crisp also picked up two sacks and forced an interception on another would-be sack, so the Golden Bears linebacker was everywhere down on South Beach causing issues for every offense he went up against.
5. (DB) Syncere Safeeullah Syncere Safeeullah 6'2" | 175 lbs | DB Hillsboro | 2023 FL – Hillsboro
– Safeeullah did nothing but boost his stock over the weekend down in Miami as he was almost dominant with his performance, locking down his side of the field and showing why he is considered the #1 defensive back prospect by PRZTN for the 2023 class. This Burros cover corner is a beautiful looking specimen with his height, length and wide radius. Opposing receivers had a hard time breaking away from Safeeullah due to those physical traits along with his flexibility to stay on line through the route. Safeeullah simply just doesn’t allow catches and he is one of the more consistent performers you will find as he brings it to the field every time he steps out there. Look for a big breakout recruiting offseason for this Nashville area defender.

– Get to know Mr. Carter as soon as you can because this guy is positioning himself as possibly one of the top prospects from the 2024 class and that’s not just for Tennessee but the entire country. This dude is a dawg! Carter simply is a playmaker no matter where you put him on the field and this past weekend in Miami, he proved that and then some! Over on defense, Carter was outstanding as he produced two INT’s and was a nuisance to opposing receivers. This Chattanooga area athlete was also quite good on offense as well, working out of the slot, using his speed and athleticism to break away from defenders. Carter has already seen an influx of Power Five offers but expect to see many more to arrive over the coming months because this guy is legit!
Scouting Notes
– The Dream Team as a whole had a good weekend, winning three of the four games played and showed why they could be one of the better teams on the 7v7 circuit this year. Multiple guys who are listed above had strong showings but others like Martels Carter, Jr, Demitrius Bell Demitrius Bell 6'1" | 170 lbs | WR McGavock | 2023 State TN and Ben Marshall Ben Marshall 6'5" | 220 lbs | TE Blackman | 2023 State TN had flashes of upside and prospects to watch going forward.
Carter, Jr who plays out of Rome (Ga) is an athletic, well put together safety that can slide down to play nickel if needed to. He is long and rangy along with a great attitude towards competing and developing. This guy has big upside and a great future ahead of him.
Bell is ultra athletic and quick but still raw with his football knowledge. He is also pretty new to this level of football alongside top talent, so the more he gets acclimated to everything around him, the more he will stand out and become the playmaker that’s written all over his abilities.
Marshall is a hot prospect right now adding multiple offers over the last few days, including P5 ones from Indiana, NC State and Vanderbilt. Much like Bell above, Marshall is new to the 7v7 scene, so Miami was an adjustment moment for him but something he certainly learned from and will take going forward. Marshall is ultra talented with tremendous upside.
