As usual, there are already some big-time names to watch in the 2023 class in Georgia, especially in the Atlanta area.
Here, we take a closer look at the 2023 CBs in Metro Atlanta that are prepared to break onto the scene.
Taylor Cox-Young | 5’10 | Creekview
Cox-Young has legitimate 4.4 speed and he uses that to his advantage. His ability to flip his hips and run stride for stride with anyone he is matched up against makes it extremely difficult to create any separation against him. On top of that, he is extremely physical in press coverage and forces the QB to make a perfect throw. If the receiver does happen to get his hands on it, Cox-Young does everything in his power to knock it loose. Cox-Young has the perfect combination of speed and physicality, someone should take notice soon.
Hardin Skipper | 5’8 | Cambridge
Skipper is a true safety who is versatile enough to come downfield and make plays in the box. Is a tackle machine in the secondary who oftentimes comes in on blitzes to hit the ball carrier in the backfield. In coverage, he is a true ballhawk-style safety who always seems to be in the right place at the right time. HE can digest the play and know where it is going before it even starts. Even at 5’8. he can go up and win 50/50 balls over taller defenders with his leaping ability. Skipper’s versatility and instincts will take him a long way.
Brayden Holmes | 6’1 | Milton
Long and lanky CBs that can run have started to become a trend in recent years, and Holmes fits that build. He is able to flip his hips and run with anybody on the field. Then, he uses his long arms and frame to get physical and make it tough for the receiver to make a play. He also has an underrated ability to come downfield and make huge hits on receivers. By definition, Holmes is a lock-down press corner. Coming off a productive junior season where he finished with almost 40 tackles and 3 INTs, he has the ability to have an even bigger season come fall.
Grey Brockman | 6’1 | West Forsyth
Brockman has a skill set that can translate to multiple positions on the field. He has the long frame that is so sought after in CBs, but he also has the ability to come downfield and make hard hits from the safety spot. That physicality can also translate to lining him up in the box. Regardless, he has big-time speed and has a knack for making a big play. He plays extremely hard and is a nuisance in 1 on 1 coverage. With continued growth, he should continue to become a more well-rounded football player.
Che Ojarikre | 6’2 | Denmark
A two-way player that can play WR just as easily as he can play defensive back. Uses his long strides to eat up grass, whether that is at WR or at CB. We like him at CB thanks to his size. He is extremely long and disruptive at the point of attack. Whoever matches up across from him is sure to have a long and frustrating night. A player like Ojarikre will bring tons of upside to any team, regardless of where he lines up on the field.
