2021 did not turn out the be the season that the folks at Germantown were looking for, but their offensive spark plug Branson Robinson Branson Robinson 5'11" | 220 lbs | RB Germantown | 2022 State MS held on to the top offensive player in the state position. The future SEC star at Georgia inked with the Bulldogs in the December early signing period. Robinson fits the Georgia mold with his between the tackles physicality and complete frame. Strength and toughness are apparent for Robinson, who is more than capable of putting on quite the show in the weight room. The upcoming Germantown grad is poised for a huge future on the gridiron.
Kenyon Clay Kenyon Clay 6'0" | 210 lbs | RB Union | 2022 State MS has long been thought of as a top RB for his class by coaches around the state. The Union ATH functioned much like Robinson at Germantown in being the true bright spot offensively for a team that struggled at times. Clay pledged early to Southern Miss over numerous Group of 5 level offers and never wavered from that commitment. Clay has the easy athleticism that should quickly translate to the Golden Eagle offense.
Columbia completed the deal winning the state title in 2021 and they would not have done it without Omar Johnson Omar Johnson 5'10" | 185 lbs | RB Columbia | 2022 State MS . A low center of gravity, shifty style back that responds well to contact, Johnson is an interesting guy to keep tabs on. There is no doubt that Johnson has D1 talent that is raw. Keep an eye on the South MS RB moving forward. He comes in 3rd in our final rankings breakdown.
By this point everyone that follows high school football in Mississippi knows Dicenzo Miller Jr.. The Kemper County back has probably as many reps as anyone in the state at the position. The biggest question mark for the son of former Mississippi State star, Dicenzo Miller, is with his size and durability. The athletic, play making ability is evident and has to be accounted for. The younger Miller has recently been on a tour across the state’s junior colleges which could prove to be a great landing spot that leads to something much bigger in the future.
Winona RB Deriaun Townsend Deriaun Townsend 5'9" | 200 lbs | RB Winona | 2022 State MS rounds out the top 5 of our breakdown and much like Miller Jr. has plenty of junior college options at this time. Townsend was the show offensively for the Tigers in 2021 rushing for over 2,000 yards and 30 TD’s. Townsend is smart with the ball in his hands and will be a quality pickup wherever he choses to go.
