Part 1 of our deep dive into the state’s passing yard leaders of the 2021 season.
[player_tooltip player_id="151869" first="Logan" last="Rodriguez"], 2022, Sunnyside
Rodriguez led the state in passing yards with 2,790 and 27 touchdowns while completing just under 64% of his throws. He’s a strong and accurate passer with a quick and compact release that allows him to get the ball out on time with good velocity/zip, especially at the short and intermediate levels. Smooth movement and footwork in the pocket, he’s well composed and balanced as he reads coverage and scans the field. Possesses a high football IQ and makes smart decisions with the football evident by only throwing three interceptions all year on 373 attempts. Also a good athlete with plus mobility. One of the most underrecruiting 2022 prospects in the state.

Caleb Sherfey, 2024, Tri-Cities Prep
Sherfey finished the season with 2,718 passing yards and 33 touchdowns highlighted by a huge game one where he threw for 587 yards and 10 touchdowns in a 94-60 victory over Liberty Christian. He’s a versatile athlete with a good frame to build on at 6’2 170 lbs. Only a sophomore, he flashed good potential and upside to play multiple positions at the college level and has the time to keep developing with more experience.
[player_tooltip player_id="151863" first="Colton" last="Bower"], 2022, North Kitsap
Bower has put up big numbers his entire career at North Kitsap and finished the 2021 season with 2,569 passing yards and 41 touchdowns while only throwing one interception on 256 attempts. The Washington State baseball commit is a gifted and well-rounded athlete that was voted all-state LB as a freshman, all-state DB as a sophomore, and will be a no doubter on the list as a senior. The game comes naturally to him as he’s able to maneuver in the pocket and methodically work his way down the field with his arm or improvise and use his legs when protection breaks down. He runs well and flashes plus elusiveness in the open field to go along with his great playmaking instincts and savviness. D1 talent and ability.

[player_tooltip player_id="87348" first="Trent" last="Nobach"], 2022, Arlington
Nobach wrapped up an outstanding career at Arlington with 2,566 passing yards and 31 touchdowns as a senior. He’s a pure pocket passer with good natural arm talent showing great accuracy, consistency, and touch all over the field. Love his ability to place the ball and hit his spots while layering it over the top of second level defenders across the middle and vertically. High football IQ, he understands coverage and can manipulate defenders with his eyes to create open throwing lanes. Strong pocket mechanics, he’s quick into his drop back and has a smooth delivery to anticipate and get the ball out on time. Selected First Team All-League and holds offers from Rocky Mountain, Whittier, and St. Norbert.

Joshua Perez, 2023, Toppenish
Perez is a strong dual-sport athlete (football/basketball) that finished as one of the state’s leading passers with 2,455 yards and 34 touchdowns while leading his team to an undefeated regular season record. He’s a natural athlete with good body control and coordination to be accurate while making off platform throws from different arm angles. He sees the field well and shows great awareness to extend the play with his legs and throw on the run to either direction without sacrificing that accuracy. Love his composure, confidence, and demeanor as the leader in the Toppenish offense. Only a junior, he’ll look to continue to grow and build on his performance as a senior.

[player_tooltip player_id="199115" first="Kennedy" last="McGill"], 2022, North Creek

The dual-threat QB passed for 2,334 yards and 26 touchdowns on the season while adding over 900 yards and another 16 touchdowns on the ground. He’s a plus athlete with smooth/natural movement skills both as a pocket passer and as a runner. Possesses a live arm that can attack the defense at all three levels with his ability to mix up velocities throwing with zip or touch. Quick and compact over the top delivery with a high release point allows him to get added height and trajectory on his throws. Strong footwork and mechanics as a pocket passer and a good ability to improvise and manipulate the pocket to avoid pressure when protection breaks down. Picked up his first D1 offer from Georgetown to add to his list of College of Idaho and Whitworth.
