Top Performers From Houston vs. Dallas 6th Grade Game in FBU NC
In a battle of the two best sixth-graders (2028 prospects) I saw over the weekend, Landon Brazelle and Dillon Mitchell did not disappoint.
Mitchell showed some ridiculous acceleration and speed. He reached his top end speed so quickly that it appeared as if he never had to adjust his stride to speed up. His first step is explosive enough to where he can accelerate from any break. That speed translated into special team as well, where on one kickoff, he ran down on kick coverage and made the tackle as soon as the returner caught it. The refs thought he was offsides due to him getting down the field so fast, and they made Houston kickoff again. Mitchell proceeded to fly down the field again and nearly made the same play.
Brazelle was again the main focus of the Dallas offense this game due to quarterback Trey Wright having trouble with his injured left hand. Brazelle, who goes by “Lando” gave maximum effort all game long, knowing he had to step up. Dallas was direct snapping it to him on many plays and if he didn’t get the ball from the snap, he was picking up yards after the catch. Dallas found decent success with this tactic until Houston started loading the box with eight.
Anthony Rodriguez proved to be a solid option on offense as a strong runner with great hands for Houston. He can play any skilled position (outside of quarterback) on the offensive side of the ball if called upon. Due to his size combination of size and skill, he moved laterally very well and forced Dallas to gang tackle him. He’s a solid route runner also and has the ability to get through defenders with both moves and power.
Evan Jones of Houston was a scrappy playmaker. He made the types of plays when his team need him most. For example, there was a fumble on a handoff and he flew in from his corner position to recover the ball.#
Cordie Kimble was good two-way player for Houston as well. He was not scared to hit and get his nose dirty. Also displayed solid, dependable hands on the outside.
