The early signing period has come and gone and it’s now time to take a look at who’s still available in Oklahoma’s 2022 class. The current group of seniors still feature plenty of talented players that will be signing in February. In this post, we take a look at the top five available prospects on the offense. Coming up later, we’ll take a look at the top five defensive prospects available. And spoiler alert for this post, it’s very Union-heavy as several Redhawk prospects are among the best available on the offensive side of the ball. And another note, both of these lists do NOT feature prospects who are committed but did not sign. So no [player_tooltip player_id="48668" first="Gavin" last="Freeman"] or [player_tooltip player_id="38668" first="Gentry" last="Williams"] on either list.
[player_tooltip player_id="67771" first="Antonio" last="Smith"] - Running Back - Union
This list kicks off with the productive [player_tooltip player_id="67771" first="Antonio" last="Smith"]. He’s a great lead off for this list as he perfectly encapsulates the theme of not understanding why these players are still available. The running back is one of the more dynamic players in the state and has the numbers to back it up this season. While he was the lead back for Union, there also times he spilt carries with fellow senior [player_tooltip player_id="38703" first="Rovaughn" last="Banks"]. When they were in the backfield together, they combined to be one of the best backfields in 6A-1. Smith is strong and explosive runner, that anytime he touches the ball he’s a threat to go the distance. He added versatility to his game this season by also showcasing the ability to be a receiver out of the backfield. This multifaceted, playing making running back will make a college program very happy next fall.
[player_tooltip player_id="135491" first="Davis" last="Dotson"] - Offensive Lineman - Berryhill
The first of two massive offensive linemen on this list is Berryhill’s [player_tooltip player_id="135491" first="Davis" last="Dotson"]. The Berryhill standout has been one of the more consistent offensive lineman prospects over the last two seasons. He had a breakout year last year as a junior and was dominant this season. Dotson has been recruited by multiple D1 programs and has been offered by several power five programs. In fact, Dotson probably had the most offers among uncommitted prospects that did not sign on Wednesday. As opposed to the other prospects on this list, Dotson is a small school star that has been a match-up nightmare for almost every 3A school that Berryhill faced this season. Despite playing for a small school, it’s apparent that Dotson is still thought of as one of the better OL prospects in this region based on who has recruited him. After not signing Wednesday, it could be a mad dash to try to sign the Berryhill big man.
Marcus Dockins - Athlete - Moore
The Moore standout came into this season with high expectations after a breakout year a season ago. Despite the rest of 6A-1 being ready for Dockins this year, he was still able to be a gamechanger with the ball in his hands. Dockins would line up at several different positions on offense, defense and special teams and opposing teams would need to know where Dockins was at all times. For us, we believe that Dockins belongs on the offensive side of the ball and that could be as a running back or wide receiver. Either way, whoever ends up signing him is getting one of the best playmakers in 6A-1 this season. Dockins has the size, skills and speed to be a versatile weapon at the next level. More schools should be on the Moore standout at this point of the year
[player_tooltip player_id="38703" first="Rovaughn" last="Banks"] - Athlete - Union
This senior standout was already brought up with his teammate, [player_tooltip player_id="67771" first="Antonio" last="Smith"]. Banks is an easy player to root for because of his willingness to do anything for the team. He has been moved around multiple times in the Union offense. From quarterback to running back to wide receiver. Then back to running back and finally back to quarterback. Banks was a selfless leader on this Union team that made it all the way to the state title game. While his future is not as a quarterback, the Redhawk is still one of the best athletes in the 2022 class. Whether it’s at running back or lined out at wide receiver, he’s going to make a play, it’s only a matter of time. The combination of his skillset and his leadership this year is a big reason why Banks should be a high priority for colleges looking for offensive playmakers in the state this year.
[player_tooltip player_id="38675" first="Will" last="Thomas"] - Offensive Lineman - Union
Our third and final Union prospect is offensive lineman [player_tooltip player_id="38675" first="Will" last="Thomas"]. The Union big man has been a consistent top 25 prospect for over a year now when it comes to the 2022 class. Like Dotson at Berryhill, Thomas puts a check in all the boxes required to be an offensive lineman. Thomas is a massive human being and has been the anchor of a very talented offensive line at left tackle. Thomas is a punishing blocker who does not shy away from being incredibly physical. His recruitment might have been slowed up this fall due to an offseason of recovery for a knee injury. However, it was clear with Union big man this season, the injury wasn’t noticeable and Thomas is the best offensive lineman available in the 2022 class.
