The early signing period has come and gone and it’s now time to take a look at who’s up next here in Oklahoma’s 2022 class. The current group of seniors still feature plenty of talented players that will be signing in February. In this post, we take a look at the top five available prospects on the defensive side of the ball. Earlier, we posted an article taking a look at the top five available prospects on offense. Side note, both of these lists do not feature prospects who are committed but did not sign. So no [player_tooltip player_id="48668" first="Gavin" last="Freeman"] or [player_tooltip player_id="38668" first="Gentry" last="Williams"] on either list.
Brandon Ramsey - Defensive Back - Owasso
The Rams defense wasn’t always their usual stellar self this past season, but Ramsey still stands out as one of the better cornerbacks among Oklahoma’s seniors. He checks a lot of boxes for cornerbacks at the next level with his size, physicality and experience as a starter for a big time program in Oklahoma. Due to Owasso’s issues on the defensive side ball it’s possible that’s why Ramsey is being overlooked and unsigned right now. He still had his own strong personal moments, including a successful Week 0 battle against future Oklahoma State Cowboy [player_tooltip player_id="38667" first="Talyn" last="Shettron"]. This Owasso Ram should be a priority for any college programs looking for a traditional cornerback.
[player_tooltip player_id="101263" first="Cade" last="Stacy"] - Defensive Back - Jenks
Staying with a Class 6A-1 defensive back, we go from a suburb north of Tulsa to a south Tulsa suburb. The Trojans were possibly the best defensive unit in Oklahoma, regardless of class this season. Stacy and the Trojan secondary was a big reason why for their success, especially with the growth of Stacy these past two years. He’s become a lockdown corner and one of the best in the state at his position. However, with his length and athletic ability, it would be a mistake to limit the Jenks senior to just one position at the next level. In the right system, Stacy could be moved around and play in a few different spots on defense. His success at cornerback and potential versatility is a big reason why he cracks this list.
[player_tooltip player_id="38690" first="Chase" last="Faber"] - Linebacker - McAlester
The leader of one of the best defenses in the state was senior linebacker [player_tooltip player_id="38690" first="Chase" last="Faber"] of McAlester’s famous "Black Death Defense". He’s been a successful player in eastern Oklahoma for a few years now. This year was more of a state wide confirmation as Faber among the very best in Oklahoma. The senior linebacker was a big reason McAlester made the Class 5A State Championship game. The linebacker position is incredibly deep this year in Oklahoma. Faber is the first of three linebackers on this list and they’re all considered top 30 prospects overall in the 2022 class. Faber is an underrated athlete and isn’t just a run-stopper as he can also fly around and defend the pass.
[player_tooltip player_id="61131" first="Duncan" last="Parham"] - Linebacker - Norman North
Continuing the linebacker theme is another player that has been productive for a few years. Right now the Norman North standout has been recruited mostly by Ivy League programs. To go along with being a tackling machine this season, he also showed impressive versatility. Parham would also line up opposite of standout 2023 defensive end [player_tooltip player_id="38781" first="Parker" last="Andrews"] and cause real problems for opposing offensive linemen trying to keep both of them out of the backfield. It’s not impossible to see Parham in that type of role at the next level where he lines up more as an edge rusher with the mission of causing chaos in the backfield. He showed this season that he can do it and that just makes him more versatile as a prospect and can bring much more to the table as a potential recruit.

[player_tooltip player_id="55157" first="Jack" last="Puckett"] - Linebacker - Bixby
This list has been done alphabetically but the last prospect is the top rated available prospect on the defensive side of the ball and that’s Bixby linebacker [player_tooltip player_id="55157" first="Jack" last="Puckett"]. Similar to the offensive post breaking down the top available prospects, there are several prospects that it is just baffling that they aren’t higher priorities for schools that recruit this region. Puckett is another perfect example of that. When watching Puckett, it’s impossible not to be impressed. The one knock on Puckett is height and even that shouldn’t be a major concern. The Bixby senior is reminiscent of former Wagoner standout and current OSU All American Malcolm Rodriguez. Both were under-recruited, both played for outstanding HS programs and both are tackling machines. This collegiate season has shown the upside of Rodriguez at the next level. That very well could be Puckett in a few years.
