Through my time scouting talent in central KY, there are some schools and parts of the region that have went relatively unnoticed until now. Those schools will be Fort Knox High School as well as Nelson and Taylor county schools : 1) Brady Clark QB (Bardstown) Sr. Brady had an amazing season, played like a natural at QB most games he was way above 50% completions and multiple TDs. Brady's best abilities are getting a clean throw off in time, never holds the ball too long, and doesn't throw wobbly or hard to catch passes, he is nearly always on target. 2) Evan Hicks WR (Nelson County) Jr. Evan Hicks was depended on a lot in most of Nelson County drives and he is who caught most of their passing TDs. Hicks is hard to cover one on one and can burn through a cover 2 with a deep crossing route, a wide arsenal of skills and is Nelson County's WR1 for good reason. 3) Braden Smith WR/RB (Thomas Nelson) Sr. In week 5 Braden had 11 touches (6 catches and 5 rushes) for 150 yards from scrimmage and the only TD Thomas Nelson scored. This stat line is very common for B. Smith as he is very effective when he has the ball, but a lot of the time Thomas Nelson waits until the right time to use Braden, causing him to have more efficient stats but less total stats than if they just fed him the ball most plays. 4) Chase Gridley QB (Thomas Nelson) Sr. Chase started the season very strong, in the first week he threw 10 completions and only 3 incomplete passes, totaling 2 TDs and almost 200 yards (194). Gridley is another 2 way player, having a good amount of snaps on defense. Chase's best attributes he brings are endurance and durability as he has a lot of contact compared to other QBs and it doesn't effect his playstyle. 5) Shannon Tonge WR (Bardstown) Jr. Bardstown's top WR is Shannon Tonge, he is a very hot and cold type of player. Some games he is almost the entire passing game, like week 5, where he had 9 catches out of 13 total team receptions, and 168 receiving yards out of 203 as well as the only 2 receivable TDS. Then other games he is very passive and makes blocking plays and catches shorter passes like in week 7, where they scored 62 points and had nearly 200 passing yards but Tonge had 2 catches for 45 yards. Shannon will either carry the game and single handily rip the defense for these huge plays or he makes small, game managing plays, either way his team stayed winning all through the season. 6) Peyton Smith RB/WR (Taylor County) Fr. Peyton Smith has had some great games and the games he doesn't stuff the stats, he will make good blocks and convert 3rd downs. All-around high productive player and has plenty of time to improve, no doubt Smith's stock will rise in the coming years. 7) Kenlin Ortiz RB (Fort Knox) Sr. Fort Knox is a smaller school, but still had Ortiz who consistently rushed enough to win games, Kenlin wasn't afraid to make contact but often wouldn't have to with his speed usually being the best on the field, I would like to see Kenlin in higher level competition to see if he can keep his consistency, for what he was given definitely mentionable in this top 10. 8) Deondre Weathers QB (Campbellsville) So. Weathers is a solid QB who has the right tools, he can keep drives going and likes to pass to multiple targets each game. Deondre can spread the defense out, looks at several options each play before throwing and usually picks the right target. Weathers could work on releasing it quicker and maybe pocket movement but those are skills any QB coach could easily help with, all the major fundamentals are there for Deondre. 9) TJ Greenwell RB (Bardstown) Jr. Another Bardstown standout from their undefeated season, and good run in the 3A playoffs, TJ Greenwell. TJ had several games where he would have 100 to 150 yards, mostly used on 3rd downs as he also started LB on defense, but against less physical teams, the Tigers ran the heavy run attack and that's where we see Greenwell excel. 10) Tristin Griffin WR (Fort Knox) Sr. Tristin has had a good season at Fort Knox, although they weren't the hottest offensive team, Griffin found a way to stay in the top of the region. Tristin Griffin is a WR who is very hard to cover man to man and can get good contact off the line.
