Continue ReadingThe state of Georgia produces high-level defensive backs as well as any state in the country. Offenses are throwing the ball more and more all over the state, and programs need top defensive backs who can hold their own against some of the top receivers around. The 2024 class is especially deep in the secondary, and we saw plenty of sophomore see their stock rise over the last few weeks.
Here are some 2024 DBs who have seen their stock rise recently…
Zion Ferguson – CB – Grayson
One of the top young defensive backs in Gwinnett County, Ferguson is one of the hottest prospects across the state right now, adding multiple D1 offers from Ole Miss, Georgia, Florida State, South Carolina, among others. He’s long, athletic, and went up against some of the best receivers in the state. He more than held his own as a sophomore, using his length and speed to stay on the hip of the opposing receivers. He broke up a decent amount of passes last year and showed he can really close when the ball is in the air. He ended the year on a strong note and is only scratching the surface of his potential.
#AGTG Wow!! Very blessed to receive an offer from @GeorgiaFootball @DellMcGee..@Coach_FredM @coach_SB21 @CarterRamsFB @tdlock52 @dareu_i @BigCoachMarvin @ChadSimmons_ @JeremyO_Johnson @Mansell247 @jeffsentell @RecruitGeorgia @CFravel247 @tballardqbcoach #godawgs pic.twitter.com/mjgZBqSI6i

Jalewis Solomon – DB – Schley County
Already one of the biggest playmakers in Middle Georgia, Solomon is just a sophomore and making a giant impact on both sides of the football. One of the more impressive two-way players in the entire state this season, Solomon is a big-play waiting to happen at receiver with his 54 catches for 913 yards and 13 touchdowns. He’s incredible quick, agile, and changes directions with ease. Defensively, the 6-foot-1 180-pounder has been a lockdown defensive tack, making 20 total tackles and picking off four passes so far this season. He shows great instincts, and when the ball is in the air, he’s coming down with it. He’s recently earned offers from South Carolina, Georgia and LSU, among others.
Blessed to receive my 7th offer from the University of South Carolina! #go gamecocks 🖤❤️ @AlfordCoach @SchleyRecruits @ChadSimmons_ pic.twitter.com/vOOJTOnzJR

Tyjai Hopper – Cornerback – Alpharetta
A quick, active cornerback with length at 6-foot-0 165-pounds, Hopper is coming off an impressive sophomore season, lining up against some top-notch 7A receivers in one of the toughest regions in the classification. Hopper showed great instincts and can dissect plays before they happen. He plays with toughness, he runs well, and broke up quite a few passes last year in coverage. He also added a pick-6 to his resume. He should be one of the top returning CB prospects in the region next fall. Look for his stock to rise quickly sooner than later, leading to more heavy D1 interest.
Antavious Murphy – WR/DB – Bainbridge
There’s a new dynamic athlete in Bainbridge and it’s Antavious Murphy. The quick, versatile 5-foot-10 165-pounder can make lots of plays at both WR and DB, showing his early instincts as a sophomore. He’s a good athlete with enough ball skills to make an impact as a receiver, but he knows how to force turnovers and make plays against the pass at cornerback. He’s not overly big, but he makes a lot of plays and clearly has D1 talent. He led Bainbridge in INTs last year, but we don’t expect teams to throw much on him next year. He’s becoming one of the better 2024 CBs and overall athletes in South Georgia.
