In the title game for the first time, St. Mary’s dominated from the start and rolled to a 56-0 victory over St. Pius X (Kanas City) in the Class 3 title game at Faurot Field in Columbia on Dec. 4. St. Mary’s scored four plays into the game and never looked back. The Dragons, ranked No. 1 heading into the state playoffs, handed Pius a second straight loss in a championship game. Last fall, after losing 6-3 to Lamar in the Class 2 title game, Pius received the most-lopsided loss in MSHSAA history. The previous mark was a 54-0 win by Blair Oaks over Lathrop in 2018 in the Class 2 finals. St. Mary’s (12-1) Players of the Game [player_tooltip player_id="172435" first="Caron" last="Spann"], QB, 2022 He tossed a 26-yard touchdown play on the opening drive and St. Mary’s needed just a little more than 1 ½ minutes to get on the board. His 26-yard touchdown pass was the first of three touchdown passes, as he went 6 for 10 for 204 yards. He added 71 yards and a pair of scores running the ball, including a touchdown run that probably covered about 70 yards as he avoided at least five tacklers. He had only four rushing touchdowns this year, two in this game covering 28 and 23 yards.

https://t.co/F0bwRYQWtH
— [player_tooltip player_id="172435" first="Caron" last="Spann"] (@spann_caron) December 8, 2021
[player_tooltip player_id="37523" first="Kevin" last="Coleman"] Jr., WR, 2022 On the fourth play of the game, Coleman out jumped two Warriors defender who had him heavily covered for the touchdown. The five-star recruit had only two caches in the game for 97 yards, the other was a 71-yard touchdown in the second quarter. He finished with 985 yards receiving on 36 catches and 17 touchdowns this fall. Since the title game, he had an in-home visit from the Florida State staff and visited the University of Miami. Donovan McIntosh, WR/DB, 2023 McIntosh had big plays on both sides of the ball. He had a 45-yard touchdown catch in the second quarter, which was his only reception of the game. He also had a 28-yard interception return for a touchdown in the quarter, which made it 35-0 and put the game into turbo clock territory. The Pius offense ran the ball 22 times for minus-5 yards and tallied only 114 yards of total offense.

Check out my highlight - https://t.co/xIs0yYZQ6D ⁦@Ken_Turner_⁩
— Donovan McIntosh (@Donovan__314) October 26, 2021
St. Pius X (12-2) Players of the Game [player_tooltip player_id="177069" first="Jayshawn" last="Ross"], WR/DE, 2024 After St. Mary’s opening-drive score, Ross took the kickoff and returned it 53-yards to get the ball into the Dragons’ side of the field, but that drive ended with a punt.
