The 2021 season displayed plenty of positives in what was a tough season for the Wildcats. Har-Ber finished the season with a 3-8 record and a playoff appearance against the Cabot Panthers. We will look back at the 2021 season as well as give some players to keep an eye on during the 2022 season. The Wildcats have a deep roster returning next season and have the potential to be a dangerous team to contend with.
The Wildcats were faced with a difficult schedule to start the 2021 season. Kicking the season off with McKinney, Northside, and North Little Rock had the Wildcats backs against the wall early in the season. However, wins against Springdale and Rogers Heritage helped the Wildcats clinch a playoff spot. Har-Ber has the potential to have an even stronger season next season as well.
Shifting our focus, to the Wildcats offensive side of the ball. Junior quarterback [player_tooltip player_id="204437" first="Luke" last="Buchanan"] gives the Wildcats a quarterback that was dangerous both throwing and running the football. Buchanan had a strong 2021 season, throwing for 2,827 yards, 19 touchdowns, and only 10 interceptions. Meanwhile, Buchanan displayed a willingness to use his legs to pick up yards on the ground. Buchanan has the potential to be an extremely impressive quarterback next season.
Looking at the running and receiving positions. Har-Ber had several players that impressed at those positions this season. Junior running back [player_tooltip player_id="91974" first="Hudson" last="Brewer"] had his season end late in the season, however he was still putting impressive numbers and making impressive plays. Brewer rushed for 525 yards and punched the ball in the end zone 10 times this season. The Wildcats also got to see junior running back [player_tooltip player_id="250288" first="Cole" last="Carlton"] do some good things with the ball in his hands. Carlton rushed for 484 yards and seven touchdowns on the season.
On the pass catching side of things for the Wildcats. Senior wide receiver [player_tooltip player_id="134659" first="Peyton" last="McKee"] had an excellent season. McKee has the speed to stretch the field and the hands to haul any pass thrown his way. It will be tough to replace McKee in 2022. Bliyge Cook will have an opportunity to see some passes thrown his way next season.
On the defensive side of the ball, the Wildcats are going to miss senior defensive back [player_tooltip player_id="92901" first="Malachi" last="Cramer"]. Cramer racked up over 100 tackles last season. Junior linebacker Amare Tareo had an impressive season and has the potential to really impress a lot of people during the 2022 season. Tareo racked up 53 tackles and 1.5 sacks during the 2021 season. The Wildcats will be returning plenty of experienced players for the 2022 season.
