The War Eagles of Rogers Heritage did not have the easiest time during the 2021 season. However, Rogers Heritage has a number of talented prospects that will return for next season. Those players will be counted upon to replace a number of talented prospects that will be graduating this spring. We are going to take a look at some of the key players returning as well as a few that are moving. Prep RedZone Arkansas will give a brief preview of the 2022 season and what to expect next season.
The War Eagles were rarely out of contention in any of the games this season. Stopping an opposing team’s drive or in the Heritage offenses case extending drives would have resulted in a few more victories this season. However, the War Eagles have plenty of young talent on the roster and plenty of positives can be taken away from the 2021 season.
Looking first, at the offensive side of the ball for the War Eagles. Junior quarterback [player_tooltip player_id="132965" first="Carter" last="Hensley"] is a prospect to watch over the next few months. Hensley has the arm strength and is accurate quarterback. He is a player that can make the plays in the passing game and will be a quarterback to watch during the 2022 season.
Replacing do everything running back [player_tooltip player_id="144147" first="Eli" last="Craig"] is not going to be an easy task for the War Eagles next season. Craig is a player that can line up at the running back position or split out at the wide receiver position. It would surprise me not to see him earn a scholarship playing football on Saturdays. Sophomore [player_tooltip player_id="149590" first="Maddox" last="Macquinn"] is a player to watch out for out a number of positions but expect him to earn some carries next season. Macquinn can be dangerous with the football when give the opportunity.
The wide receiver position will see several prospects get the opportunity to see some snaps. Isaiah Hill, Bobby Jacobsen, and Bryan Castro all have the chance to see some playing time. Replacing Craig in the passing game is not going to be an easy task to achieve. Being a young team at a number of positions is never a bad thing when the position group has some talented individuals coming up through the ranks.
Meanwhile, on the defensive side of the ball, the War Eagles are going to depend on guys like Jacob Armijo and Hugo Vasquez to make some plays on the defensive side of the ball. Rogers Heritage will have a chance to be a much-improved team on the defensive side of the ball in 2022. The War Eagles will continue to make the steps needed to improve including seven-on-seven play and spring workouts. Keep an eye on this group.
