The <a href="https://prepredzone.com/2021/12/new-2023-rankings-are-up-heres-who-was-added-free-5/">2023 Rankings were posted recently!</a> The Prep Redzone staff has plenty of analysis on the way to complement the release!
Quickly, though, below is a simple look at the names of offensive players who were added in this update:
<strong><a class="pn-player-link" href="https://prepredzone.com/player/keyjuan-brown/"><span class="name-pointer">[player_tooltip player_id="220721" first="Keyjuan" last="Brown"]</span></a> - RB - South Atlanta</strong>
One of the biggest sleeper backs in the entire state, Brown put on a show every Friday this past fall, leading the entire state in rushing for the 2021 season. Every time Brown had the ball in his hands, something good happened. The tackle-breaking 5-foot-10 200-pounder has no problem bowling through would-be tackles and has shown he also has enough speed to break off a long run on any particular play. He was outstanding every game, rushing for 2,757 yards on the season and 38 touchdowns. He couldn’t be stopped, showing speed, agility, and big-play ability every game. Brown rushed for over 100 yards in every game and rushed for over 200 yards in eight games. He’s quickly become one of the top 2023 backs in the state after a dominant junior year.
<strong><a class="pn-player-link" href="https://prepredzone.com/player/ethan-davis/"><span class="name-pointer">[player_tooltip player_id="220719" first="Ethan" last="Davis"]</span></a> - TE - Collins Hill</strong>
One of the breakout juniors in Gwinnett County, Davis saw his stock rise more and more as the season went on as a junior, leading to some major D1 offers and a commitment to Tennessee. Davis is a lean athlete at 6-foot-5 with big hands, and due to his size, he can be a giant mismatch on defenders in the middle of the field. He’s great after the catch, and even though he sustained an injury at the end of the season, Davis was a big-time playmaker for the 7A state champion Eagles this fall. Davis caught 61 passes last year for 755 yards and 8 touchdowns.
<strong><a class="pn-player-link" href="https://prepredzone.com/player/jaden-gibson-3/"><span class="name-pointer">[player_tooltip player_id="145593" first="Jaden" last="Gibson"]</span></a> – WR – Rabun County</strong>
The state’s leading receiver last year, Gibson dominated all season long for Rabun County and was been a go-to weapon for QB <a class="pn-player-link" href="https://prepredzone.com/player/gunner-stockton/"><span class="name-pointer">[player_tooltip player_id="33862" first="Gunner" last="Stockton"]</span></a> all season. The 2023 wideout did it all this season, taking screen passes to the house and proving to be a down-field weapon as well. He’s great after the catch and wants to score every time he touches the ball. The junior caught 86 passes this season for 1,878 yards and 19 touchdowns. He averaged over 144 receiving yards per game, proving he was one of the more dominant pass-catchers across the state.
<strong><a class="pn-player-link" href="https://prepredzone.com/player/zechariah-owens-2/"><span class="name-pointer">[player_tooltip player_id="220715" first="Zechariah" last="Owens"]</span></a> – ECLA</strong>
Looking for size? Owens is a meaty lineman with lots of mass and raw strength. The big 6-foot-7 345-pounder is a force in the run game and has no problem throwing opposing defensive linemen backwards. He was simply too big and too powerful for defensive linemen in the region to handle. He takes up a lot of space and is very thick in the lower body. He can’t be pushed backwards and can be too wide for speedy defenders to get around. He has long arms, plays with balance, and is one of the top left tackles in the entire classification.
<strong><a class="pn-player-link" href="https://prepredzone.com/player/shamurad-umarov/"><span class="name-pointer">[player_tooltip player_id="220716" first="Shamurad" last="Umarov"]</span></a> – 2023 – Offensive Tackle</strong>
One of the fastest-rising top offensive line prospects in the entire state, Umarov is a big 6-foot-6 295-pounder who has had nice junior season this past fall. The junior has a great frame, plenty of length, and still looks lean enough to continue adding solid weight and muscle. He plays with a solid base and shows impressive footwork for someone his size. He’s still learning, and there’s still some developing to do, but he’s a promising pass protector and knows how to handle his opponent in the run game. He’s recently earned offers from West Virginia, Louisville, Indiana, among others.
