The season is over and we're back at it with the All-State Awards for 8A-1A to highlight these student-athletes accomplishments this season. It was a grueling 9 Week Regular Season and one heck of a road to IHSA State for those that made the playoffs. After reviewing the film of the Top 40 teams in the class of 4A, we're diving into the 4A All-State Offensive Edition. Without further ado, let's dive into it.
1st Team QB [player_tooltip player_id="20867" first="Aidan" last="Voss"] 22' Joliet Catholic Academy Twitter Mr. Voss's legs are a legit threat to the defense as he has that next level gear to outrun pursuit angles and blow past the 2nd level of defenders after he bursts through the line of scrimmage. Once in open space, he weaves in and out of defenders. When working in platform, he adds easy velocity across all three levels (level 1, level 2, & level 3) as well as adding a touch on the deep ball. When working out of platform, he escapes the collapsed pocket getting the ball off under pressure finding his man downfield to keep the chains moving with his upper/lower half working in unison. This young man extends plays by keeping his eyes downfield delivering a strike downfield as well as having the ability to pull the ball down to scramble if nothing is open downfield. QB Calvin Lavery 6'5 180 22' Quincy Notre Dame Twitter Mr. Lavery gets the ball off under pressure and adds a touch on the deep ball as he makes level 3 throws when working in platform. When working out of platform, he escapes pocket pressure and keeps his eyes downfield to deliver a strike to keep the chains moving as his upper/lower half work in unison. If nobody is open downfield, this young man can pull the ball down to scramble as his legs are a legit threat to the defense where he can weave in and out of defenders in open space. He can also add easy velocity across all three levels (level 1, level, 2, and level 3 throws). RB [player_tooltip player_id="65721" first="Vinny" last="Iannantone"] 6'0 205 22' Joliet Catholic Academy Twitter Mr. Iannantone has the vision to find running lanes quickly between the tackles as he burst through the line of scrimmage. Upon securing the handoff, he gets vertical quickly where he then weaves in and out of defenders when in open space. This young man has the body control to stay up as he's falling to the ground by putting his hand down to stay up and breaks weak arm tackles by keeping his feet driving maintaining his low center of gravity. He can bounce plays outside which he uses his lateral quickness to turn the corner and gets vertical upon securing the catch out of the backfield. RB Ray Jones 5'11 160 22' Plano Mr. Jones bursts through the line of scrimmage and has that next level gear to outrun pursuit angles as well as blows by the 2nd level of defenders. He maintains a low center of gravity as he keeps his feet driving when breaking weak arm tackles where he can also weave in and out of defenders in open space. This young man has the lateral quickness to turn the corner and is used in the air attack. Here, he can line up in the slot where he can find the soft spot in zone coverage as he sits to be an outlet for his quarterback and can catch coming out of the backfield. Upon securing the catch, he gets vertical quickly as he further showcases his next level gear. WR [player_tooltip player_id="65872" first="KeShon" last="Singleton"] 6'2 189 23' Sacred Heart Griffin Twitter Mr. Singelton is an outside receiver that's quick off the line of scrimmage which he uses to gain a step on the defender to stack and break him off at the top of the route creating separation on the play. This young man can win over the top with his speed as well as finding the soft spot in zone coverage where he can sit to be an outlet for his quarterback. He can attack the ball at the highest point to come away with the contested catch when going up for 50/50 balls and becomes an outlet for his quarterback during the quarterback scramble drill. Upon securing the catch, he gets vertical quickly and has that next level gear to blow by the 2nd level as well as outrun pursuit angles. This is where he weaves in and out of defenders once in open space. In the return game, he gets vertical quickly which he uses to set his team up in good starting field position as well as return them for touchdowns. WR [player_tooltip player_id="20886" first="Adam" last="Criter"] 6'2 195 22' St. Francis Twitter Mr. Criter is an outside reciever that can win over the top with his speed which he uses to stack defenders to break them off at the top of the route creating separation on the play. This young man attacks the ball at the highest point to come away with contested catches when going up for 50/50 balls and gets vertical quickly upon securing the catch where he also lays out for catches. He lines up as the wildcat quarterback where he runs student body and has that next level gear to outrun pursuit angles as well as blow by the 2nd level of defenders. This young man has the vision to find running lanes quickly between the tackles and if the running lanes get clogged up he can bounce plays outside where he uses his lateral quickness to turn the corner. In the return game, he gets vertical quickly which he uses to set his team up in good starting field position as well as returning a few for touchdowns. WR [player_tooltip player_id="20880" first="Hank" last="Beatty"] 22' Rochester Twitter Mr. Beatty is quick off the line of scrimmage which he uses to win over the top with his speed and attacks the ball at the highest point to come away with contested catches as he goes up for 50/50 balls. This young man can stack defenders and break them off at the top of the route creating separation on the play as well as making the catch in double coverage. He has that next gear to outrun pursuit angles and blow by the 2nd level of defenders as well as using his lateral quickness to turn the corner. This last season he spent time at quarterback mixing in time at reciever, both of which you got a sense of just how dominant of a player this young man is. OL [player_tooltip player_id="158054" first="Anthony" last="Birsa"] 6'5 270 23' Joliet Catholic Academy Twitter Mr. Birsa fires off the ball and latches on quickly as he finishes by driving the defensive lineman 5+ yards downfield. He does so by keeping his feet driving and playing through the whistle. When this young man is pulling, he's full speed ahead as he's quick out of his stance where he's used as a lead blocker. Here, he picks up the defensive back playing the alley as well as crack blocking the outside linebacker. He gets to 2nd level blocks cutting off linebacker flow and washes the defensive lineman down. In pass protection, he uses his lateral quickness to latch on quickly and neutralizes the pass rush at the line of scrimmage. OL Tyler Wetherell 6'3 250 22' Rochester Twitter Mr. Wetherell washes the defensive lineman down and gets to 2nd level blocks cutting off linebacker flow. In pass protection, he patiently awaits the rushing defensive lineman to get within arms length before latching on. OL [player_tooltip player_id="65764" first="Luke" last="Dalton"] 6'5 300 22' Marian Central Catholic Twitter Mr. Dalton fires off the ball latching on quickly as he washes the defensive lineman down and gets to 2nd level blocks cutting off linebacker flow. He showcases his power as he drives the defensive lineman 5+ yards downfield by keeping his feet driving through the whistle as he does a good job getting hands inside with his initial punch at the point of attack. In pass protection, he uses his lateral movement to patiently await the rushing defensive lineman before getting hands inside quickly to neutralize the pass rush at the line of scrimmage. OL [player_tooltip player_id="155274" first="Ryne" last="Buttz"] 6'4 275 22' Mt. Zion Twitter Mr. Buttz gets to 2nd level blocks cutting off linebacker flow and washes the defensive lineman down. This all happens as he latches on quickly after he fires off the ball. When working in platform, he adds easy velocity across all three level (level 1, level 2, and level 3) throws where he can add a touch on the deep ball. This young man can extend plays where he keeps his eyes downfield and keeps the chains moving by delivering a strike downfield. If nobody is open downfield, he can pull the ball down to scramble to gain a few yards on the play. QB [player_tooltip player_id="155037" first="Brendan" last="Hernon"] 6'2 190 22' Marian Central Catholic Twitter Mr. Hernon can add easy velocity across all three level throws (level 1, level 2, and level 3) where he can add a touch on the deep ball when working in platform. Upon doing so, he maintains a low center of gravity as he breaks weak arm tackles by keeping his feet driving and fights for extra yards. Once he clears the line of scrimmage he hits his next level gear to outrun pursuit angles and blow past the 2nd level of defenders as he changes gears quickly. In the return game, he gets vertical quickly setting his team up in good starting field position and even returning them for touchdowns as well. RB [player_tooltip player_id="155115" first="Dylan" last="Stolz"] 5'9 170 22' Marengo Twitter Mr. Stoltz uses his lateral quickness to turn the corner and has the vision to find running lanes quickly between the tackles.
