The Macomb-Red is among the most talented and competitive leagues in the state, with many teams competing for state titles year after year. It’s no surprise that this league has a ton of incredible talent, so without much else, here’s a class of 2024 athlete to watch for every MAC Red team!
<strong>Romeo LB <a href="https://www.hudl.com/profile/7810157/Ryan-Relyea">Ryan Relyea</a></strong>
Relyea is an aggressive linebacker who helped lead Romeo to a league-best defense last season. Like I’ve said with many other standout linebackers, Relyea’s awareness and reaction time are great, making him able to read plays fast and elude blockers. His stats are very impressive with 34 tackles, and 2 forced fumbles, among more. Relyea is undoubtedly growing into a defensive leader.
<strong>Stevenson LB <a href="https://www.hudl.com/profile/15084753/Caden-Bollinger">Caden Bollinger</a></strong>
#7 was great this past season, starting on a state-semifinalist team as a sophomore. Bollinger has great lateral quickness and is a football magnet. High motor who never gives up on a play. There are many instances of him tackling a ball carrier on the other side of the field that he started on, and that’s due to effort. I’m excited to watch what he can do this next season.
<strong>Dakota K <a href="https://www.hudl.com/profile/14683064/Anthony-Markovski">Anthony Markovski</a></strong>
Kicking can be the difference in an ultra-talented and competitive league such as the Macomb Red. Markocski is a 4-star Kohls kicker and he showcases "advanced ball striking" for his age. He’s a confident kicker who I expect to improve this offseason, while he is a great punter but a bit inconsistent. Nevertheless, Markovski is the best kicker and punter in the MAC Red heading into 2022.
<strong>Chippewa Valley WR <a href="https://www.hudl.com/profile/14519794/Shamar-Heard">Shamar Heard</a></strong>
Heard is by far the most athletic on this list, and may be the fastest guy in the state. He was the fastest freshman in Michigan history, and on the football field, his 10.64 100M speed is lethal. Heard is naturally very good as a returner, as well as after the catch, and does most of his damage via short routes or screens. I would like to see what he can do as a deep threat, and I would like to see if he can install a great juke, spin, etc to compliment his blazing speed.
<strong>Grosse Pointe South T <a href="https://www.hudl.com/profile/16386813/CJ-Schervish">CJ Schervish</a></strong>
Schervish’s tape is very impressive as he’s shown the ability to hold his own against some great defenders. The 6’3 tackle expresses great fundamentals and pad level, as well as power, and footwork. Plus generally great blocking ability whether that be zone, power, pass, etc. I’m interested in seeing how much he can improve in 2022.
<strong>Utica Eisenhower QB <a href="https://www.hudl.com/profile/15067725/Philip-Crum">[player_tooltip player_id="206516" first="Preston" last="Crum"]</a></strong>
Having started on Varsity, Crum is a great quarterback talent that could rise through the ranks next season. At times his accuracy is nothing short of amazing, putting the ball exactly where it needs to be in tight windows. His throwing power is great as well as he really puts some juice on the shorter throws. Crum thrives in the pocket as a pro-style QB, and I’m looking forward to watching him closer next season.
