Continue ReadingLeRoy-Ostrander took control from the first possession of the 9-Man championship game and didn’t let up until they subbed down in the fourth quarter. Their 58-8 victory over Fertile-Beltrami was littered with great performances. One came from a guy playing out of position, and one included the best run I have seen all season.
Chase Johnson LeRoy-Ostrander
At quarterback, Johnson put on the best individual performance I saw – maybe all season. He used his speed down the sidelines for a first down. Johnson hit a deep ball to Tristan Lawson for a 38-yard touchdown pass. He showed strength when he broke a tackle in the backfield and threw a dart to Gavin Sweeney for a ten-yard touchdown pass on third and goal. His first touchdown run – a 54-yard effort was one of the best individual plays of the playoffs. He nearly ran 150 yards weaving in and out of defenders before he crossed the goal line.
Tanner Olson LeRoy-Ostrander
On defense, Olson stuffed a run in the middle and then stuffed a run for a short gain. Later, his immediate pressure from the nose tackle position to get another tackle for a loss tackle. Lining up on the outside, he stopped a run for a short gain on the outside. Olson even picked off a screen pass in the red zone.
On offense, Olson was a lineman a month ago and now is a dominating running back with the power to run through tacklers, a nasty stiff-arm, and enough speed to get around the corner. With only a handful of games under his belt at the position, his foot quickness is not his strength, but it was good enough to go over 100 yards rushing – averaging over six yards per carry.
Everett Balstad Fertile-Beltrami
Despite the lopsided score, Balstad was making plays all over the field on both sides of the ball. He is a big, physical runner who can do a bit of everything. He caught three passes, was a lead blocker, and rushed for over four yards per carry with a touchdown.
On defense, it looked like there were more than one number fours in red – running down plays all over the field and leading all players with twelve tackles.
Gavin Sweeney LeRoy-Ostrander
Sweeny stuffed a run on the edge. Then, he got into the backfield three times to make three tackles for loss. He beat his blocker clean in the second half on fourth and long, leading to a sack.
Tristan Lawson LeRoy-Ostrander
Lawson made a great catch for a touchdown for 30-yards. The coverage was nearly perfect, but he made a perfect adjustment to haul it in. With his quarterback and running back running all over the field, he was a willing down-field blocker helping his team pick up big yardage.
Malyk Schaefer, Hayden Sass, Morgan Jasper, Gavin Sweeney (TE) LeRoy-Ostrander OL – blocked for nearly 600 yards of total offense – including 417 on the ground.
