Freshmen Wide Receivers Bound For a Big 2022 Campaign
In this article:
These freshmen wideouts stepped up big for their respective programs in 2021. Some as their teams go to playmaker and some as a definitive role player. As they continue to progress and get bigger, faster & stronger, look for them to have an even more productive sophomore season. Here’s who you need to know about!
Jabari Jones Jabari Jones 5'10" | 175 lbs | WR Westlake | 2025 State GA , Westlake
A smaller but shifty slot receiver that catches everything thrown his way. He shows elegant cuts that he efficiently bursts out of. Jones displayed outstanding short-area quickness to go along with spectacular vision. His ability to create separation at the top of his route and overall physicality was evident all over his film.
James Johnson James Johnson 6'0" | 175 lbs | WR Douglas County | 2025 State GA , Douglas County
A precise router runner who can quickly kick it into top gear off the snap. Johnson doesn’t get rattled on poorly thrown balls and has shown an innate ability to make catches out of awkward body positions. He’s a strong runner after the catch who can make defenders miss in space. I was really impressed by his willingness and effort as a perimeter blocker to help spring a big play.
Jordan Justice, Cherokee Bluff
A steady deep ball tracker who goes up and high points the football. Justice is extremely effective on short passing concepts where he can get the ball in his hands quickly in space. He shows good overall speed, the ability to sink his hips & stop on a dime, along with plenty of wiggle. I think he could have a serious future at defensive back as well.
Edward Coleman Edward Coleman 5'10" | 180 lbs | WR Calvary Day | 2025 State GA , Calvary Day
A nasty wide receiver prospect that looks to finish off every block he makes. Coleman shows exceptional body control and is more than capable of winning his one on one matchups. He’s strong through traffic and has an inkling for finding the endzone in the red area. #19 shows great top-end speed and is a major vertical threat in the drop-back passing game.
Zeke Whittington Zeke Whittington 5'10" | 170 lbs | WR Habersham Central | 2025 State GA , Habersham Central
Don’t let his size fool you; this kid plays much bigger than his listed height. Zeke is an explosive route runner with plenty of build-up speed in his arsenal. He’s masterful on double moves, creating massive separation between he and the defender. He’s got plenty of shake with the ball in his hands and can spin defenders like a top that are attempting to bring him down.
