Defensive Standouts: CIF Division 1-AA Championship

<em>Anchored by several D-I recruits and one of the best DL in the state, Cathedral Catholic’s defense produced some big plays in the team’s 33-21 CIF D-1AA state championship win over Folsom on Friday night. LB [player_tooltip player_id="145201" first="Victory" last="Johnson"], who produced a key pick-six for Cathedral, was a major stock-riser in his junior season.</em> <b>[player_tooltip player_id="145201" first="Victory" last="Johnson"]- LB, 2023</b> <span style="font-weight: 400;">Johnson produced the biggest defensive play of the game on a pick-six in the 3rd quarter. The junior is an extremely athletic and physical LB that is equally effective in the run game and covering middle zone. He fills holes aggressively and has the size and strength to fight off blocks. He plays with instincts in coverage and shows lateral speed tackling in the flat. Fortune showed versatility this season lining up as a stand-up edge player and a 3-technique.</span> <b>Nick Dockery- DB, 2022</b> <span style="font-weight: 400;">Dockery was a standout in the state game for his coverage on 4-star Folsom TE [player_tooltip player_id="144958" first="Walker" last="Lyons"] and an INT in the first half. He’s a solid cover-corner who shows quick reactions and is a reliable tackler in space. He shows plus ball-skills and technique breaking up passes in coverage. He has an athletic frame for the position (6’2”/215 lbs.) and a nose for the football as the leading tackler on the team. He’s a physical and tenacious tackler that likes to play aggressively downhill and can be disruptive as a run-blitzer up the middle. Tremain, the brother of QB Tyler Tremain, doesn’t have any offers yet but should generate some interest from FCS schools. </span>
