Class of 2023 Under the Radar: OL

With 15 OL in the top 102 of the Prep Redzone rankings for the class of 2023, it is safe to say that there is a lot of talent at the OL position.  Here are five talented Junior Offensive Linemen that are currently under the radar. [player_tooltip player_id="189485" first="Andrew" last="Guthrie"], 6’8, 280, Miami Trace [player_tooltip player_id="189485" first="Andrew" last="Guthrie"] is the 10th ranked OL and the 62nd ranked player in the class of 2023 overall.  His outstanding play in 2021 helped the Panthers to a 7-4 record and advance to the playoffs.  He plays as a RT.  In pass pro, he sets up in a good, wide base, keeps his feet constantly moving while uses his excellent arm length and hand use to negate the progress of the 5T as he keeps the pocket clean.  While run blocking, he plays at a good pad level and utilizes his very good play strength to drive the DE several yards off the ball. [player_tooltip player_id="127307" first="Riley" last="Defibaugh"], 6’2, 290, St Vincent-St. Mary [player_tooltip player_id="127307" first="Riley" last="Defibaugh"] is the 9th ranked OL and the 57th ranked player in the class of 2023 overall.  His very good play in 2021 helped the Irish to the playoffs.  He plays as a LG.  When run blocking, he fires out low and use his very good play strength and hand use to drive the DT off the ball.  He shows great physical toughness as he finishes the block to the ground for a pancake.  In pass pro, he does a good job of keeping his feet moving while looking for a defender to block.  He assists the C by delivering a powerful hand punch to the frame of the NT knocking him down with ease. [player_tooltip player_id="119946" first="Patrick" last="Valent"], 6’4, 285, JFK Catholic [player_tooltip player_id="119946" first="Patrick" last="Valent"] is the 11th ranked OL and the 67th ranked player in the class of 2023 overall.  His great play in 2021 helped the Eagles to an 11-3 record, average 37.07 points per game and advance to the state quarterfinals.  He plays as a LT.  While run blocking, he plays at a good pad level, quickly shoots his hands and places them on the frame of the 5T.  He uses very good play strength to generate movement at the point of attack and shows excellent physical toughness as he finishes the block to the ground for a pancake.  In pass pro, he sets up at a 45 degree angle, shows great flexibility as he bends at the knee, uses his very good reactive athleticism to mirror the moves of the 5T and uses his play strength to overpower his man with ease as he keeps the pocket clean. [player_tooltip player_id="147049" first="Isaac" last="Clary"], 6’7, 305 Gallia Academy [player_tooltip player_id="147049" first="Isaac" last="Clary"] is the 12th ranked OL and the 77th ranked player in the class of 2023 overall.  His awesome play in 2021 helped the Blue Devils advance to the playoffs.  He plays as a LT.  While run blocking, he uses his very long arms and play strength to deliver a powerful punch to the frame of the DE sending him to the ground creating a big hole for the RB.  In pass pro, he keeps his feet moving constantly and displays excellent use of hands as he delivers a well-timed punch to the frame of the DE and anchors well as he keeps a good distance between himself and the QB. [player_tooltip player_id="93330" first="Carter" last="Carpenter"], 6’5, 340, Berne Union [player_tooltip player_id="93330" first="Carter" last="Carpenter"] is currently on the watchlist for the class of 2023.  In 2021, his very good play helped the Rockets to a 10-1 record, average an impressive 47.91 points per game and advance to the 2nd round of the playoffs.  He plays as a RT.  On screens, he uses his very good play speed to get to the second level and uses his great play strength to pancake multiple defenders creating space for the RB to run.  When run blocking, he uses his play strength to overpower smaller DL with ease.
