As I worked on the 2024 rankings, a ton of names from small towns popped up that I didn’t expect. From stud quarterbacks to dominant lineman to a dedicated long snapper, here are a few small-town sleepers in the class of 2024!
<strong><span style="font-size: 14pt;">Alpena QB [player_tooltip player_id="249503" first="Jake" last="Zann"] </span></strong>
All the way up in Alpena, [player_tooltip player_id="249503" first="Jake" last="Zann"] is slinging it. Zann is a QB that I believe is very underrated as he throws a very pretty ball. Especially downfield, Zann puts great touch on his passes and puts it exactly where it needs to be. He can have some nice power on shorter routes, but the accuracy needs to improve when he does throw hard. I’ll be up in Oscoda from June - August, and I just may have to visit an Alpena practice.
<strong><span style="font-size: 14pt;">Lawton QB [player_tooltip player_id="253216" first="Aiden" last="O’Brien"]</span></strong>
O’Brien was incredible for the JV Squad and also had significant Varsity playing time. Coming from a small school that runs the ball quite a bit, O’Brien is outside the norm as he’s a very accurate passer. He totaled 1050 passing yards on 55% with an 18-3 TD/INT ratio. He also had 637 yards rushing with 12 rushing touchdowns. O’Brien is also competitive over the offseason and is for sure a name to watch going forward.

<strong><span style="font-size: 14pt;">Lenawee Chrisitan TE [player_tooltip player_id="86345" first="Easton" last="Boggs"]</span></strong>
Boggs is a great 6’4" monster tight end. Coming from a small school, Boggs can do it all. He has significant experience blocking and well as receiving, as he can highpoint the ball well in addition to bulldozing anyone he needs to block. Boggs started as a freshman and had another monster year this year that he’ll look to build off of in 2022.
<strong><span style="font-size: 14pt;">Fowler T [player_tooltip player_id="249818" first="Evan" last="Curtiss"] </span></strong>
Curtiss is a big boy with an insane highlight reel. His highlights are just pancake after pancake, and I counted 13 pancakes in the first 5 minutes of his highlights. Standing at 6’4" 245lbs, Curtiss has a very high ceiling. His biggest strength is, well, his strength, while he’s capable of getting to the second level. Unfortunately this is another guy that would get many more looks if he was playing at a bigger school
<strong><span style="font-size: 14pt;">Beal City LB [player_tooltip player_id="251222" first="Josh" last="Wilson"]</span></strong>
Wilson is a dominant linebacker and great offensive lineman who played a major role in getting Beal City to the Division 8 state championship. Standing at 6’2" 210lbs, Wilson is built incredibly well and straight-up dominated D8. Defensively, he’s a hard-hitting linebacker who is seen always playing to the whistle. He’s truly a great linebacker who would get much more attention if he went to a bigger school. Offensively, Wilson’s pad level and leverage are great which lets him bulldoze anyone in his way.
<strong><span style="font-size: 14pt;">Grand Haven Long Snapper [player_tooltip player_id="253256" first="Nolan" last="Peckham"]</span></strong>
I know, I know. Grand Haven is no small town, but it’s about time Peckham got some real recognition. Peckham is serious about long snapping, and according to his Twitter, he practices his craft 5-10 hours per day. He’s 5’11" 275lbs with good lifting numbers that will only improve.
