As they make the three-mile ride from their campus to DRV PNK Stadium this evening (7:00), the Fort Lauderdale St. Thomas Aquinas Raiders will be looking for a third straight 7A state title.
To accomplish this “home” win, head coach Roger Harriott and his 13-1 football team will need to beat unbeaten (14-0) Tampa Bay Tech.
What this season has been for St. Thomas is one game – and that was a Week 2 contest at No. 1 Tampa Jesuit. A game where the Raiders lost after having to scramble to get a game after Plantation High had Covid symptoms.
The loss was damaging to the national title hopes – and as it has worked out – the Raiders could have easily been a top five team in the country as we speak. Their convincing win over Baltimore power St. Frances Academy was huge – as they would go on later in the season and beat the nation's No. 2 team, IMG Academy.
But the focus is squarely on tonight's battle with the Titans and veteran head coach Jayson Roberts, who has built this team over the past decade.
Tampa Bay Tech has had some close calls along the way, they realize that the game with the Raiders is by far the toughest test they have had.
