6A Division II Championship Game (Katy Tigers)

<p class="p1"><span style="font-size: 1rem; -webkit-text-size-adjust: 100%;">On Saturday afternoon December 4th, 2021 I decided to go watch The Katy Tigers (14-0) vs The Summer Creek Bulldogs (10-4). They played in the 6A Division II Championship Game. As usual The Katy Tigers started off strong and aggressive with a major lead of 27-7 by the end of the 1st half. However, once the 3rd quarter started The Summer Creek Bulldogs took the fight to the Tigers. The Bulldogs found their second wind by scoring a total of three touchdowns in the 3rd quarter. In the 4th and last quarter it was anyone’s game. By the end Summer Creek couldn’t catch up The Katy Tigers. The final score was a close score of 34-31 with The Katy Tigers moving on to state semifinals. The Katy Tigers had amazing standouts on both offense and defense that I will be discussing.</span></p> <p class="p1"><strong><span class="s1"><u>Katy Offense </u></span></strong></p> <p class="p3"><span class="s2">#23 [player_tooltip player_id="121974" first="Seth" last="Davis"] RB Jr 5’8 170 lbs</span></p> <p class="p3"><span class="s2">The most standout player on offense was Katy’s running back [player_tooltip player_id="121974" first="Seth" last="Davis"]. Seth is fast, strong and knows how to stay on his feet. Seth is great at finding the best path to run. Whenever Seth got the ball in his hands he would always get a 1st down. Seth averaged 15 yards per run. One of Seth’s best plays against Summer Creek was when he broke through the inside zoomed down the field for a 68 yard run. Seth is a top college prospect having numerous offers from; University of Houston, Navy Football, Yale University, University of Ole Miss and Air Force Academy. Seth ended the game with 15 carries, 230 rushing yards and rushed in for three touchdowns. </span></p> <p class="p3"><span class="s2">#4 [player_tooltip player_id="131388" first="Nicholas" last="Anderson"] WR Sr 6’4 195 lbs </span></p> <p class="p3"><span class="s2">[player_tooltip player_id="131388" first="Nicholas" last="Anderson"] is a dependable wide receiver. When The Katy Tigers were in a tough spot and had to pass the ball Nicholas was the main target. Nicholas is fast, tall and tenacious. Nicholas would use his speed to shake off his defender to get open for passes. Nicholas is a top college prospect from numerous offers from; University of Notre Dame, University of Southern California, Auburn University, Florida State, University of Texas and many others. Although, Nicholas has all of these offers he decided to commit to The University of Oklahoma for the fall 2022 football season. Nicholas ended the game with three receptions, 27 receiving yards and one touchdown. </span></p> <p class="p3"><span class="s2">#18 Dallas Glass RB Jr 5’9 195 lbs </span></p> <p class="p3"><span class="s2">Dallas Glass is another stand out running back. Dallas is a quick and fast running back. One of Dallas’ best plays is he got the ball instantly dashed through the inside for a 51 yard run touchdown. Dallas ended the game with eight carries, 85 rushing yards and rushed in for one touchdown. </span></p> <p class="p1"><span class="s1"><b><u>Katy Defense </u></b></span></p> <p class="p3"><span class="s2">#7 Johnathan Hall FS, SS So 6’2 </span></p> <p class="p3"><span class="s2">Johnathan Hall has a lot of stand out traits as a defensive free safety and strong safety. Johnathan was aggressive, quick, decisive, and has great tackling form. Johnathan as the safety majority of the time moved up and would be the main person involved in the action. Johnathan was also able to recover a fumble. Johnathan despite being a sophomore is already a college prospect having two offers from; Texas Tech University and University of Wisconsin. </span></p> <p class="p3"><span class="s2">#24 Hamilton McMartin DB Sr 6’1 185 lbs </span></p> <p class="p3"><span class="s2">Hamilton McMartin showcased his skills against The Summer Creek Bulldogs. Hamilton is a fast and strong defensive back. Hamilton as a defensive back stopped a good amount of pass plays and prevented Summer Creek from gaining the proper momentum. Hamilton was also able to prevent a touchdown run and stripped the ball for a fumble. </span></p>
