On Friday night December 17th, 2021 I went to Dallas, TX to watch the UIL 5A Division I State Championship High School football game at The AT&T Stadium. The game was between The Katy Paetow Panthers (15-1) vs The College Station Cougars (15-1). Both teams are evenly matched there was no telling who would win this game. By the end of the 1st half both teams were tied at 14-14 and then by the end of the 4th quarter they were tied again at 21-21. Therefore, this led the game going into overtime. The momentum kept on flipping between both of the teams throughout the whole game. However, one team had to win the game and The Katy Paetow Tigers scored a touchdown during overtime resulting in a final score of 27-24. Even though, The College Station Cougars lost they still made it all the way to the state championships. I will be discussing The College Station Cougars defensive standouts.

#5 Harrison Robinson OLB, SS Jr 5’10 180 lbs

Harrison Robinson is an exceptional outside linebacker. Harrison is aggressive, fast and tenacious. Harrison had amazing tackling form and every tackle made an impact. Harrison is a hard worker and will not stop running until the whistle is blown. Harrison will be integral to College Station’s defense next year in his senior year. Harrison wrapped up the game with 10 overall tackles.

#1 Bryon Johnson Jr FS, CB Sr 5’11 165 lbs

Bryon Johnson is definitely a hard hitter. Bryon is a free safety and cornerback he frequently played both throughout the game. Bryon is very aggressive even when he wasn’t making the tackle he was able to blow through anyone who was trying to block him. Bryon was also able to break up a couple passes as a cornerback. Bryon is a college prospect he currently has two college and universities offers from; University of Southwestern and The Air Force Academy. Bryon wrapped up the game with 10 overall tackles.

#94 Korbin Johnson DE Jr 6’0 250 lbs

As a defensive end Korbin Johnson plays his role remarkably well. Korbin is powerful and fast off the ball. Korbin couldn’t be stopped he would get off the ball and attack the ball holder. Korbin had a great game against The Katy Paetow Panthers with 7 overall tackles.

#99 [player_tooltip player_id="257012" first="Connor" last="Lingren"] NG, DT Sr 6’6 310 lbs

[player_tooltip player_id="257012" first="Connor" last="Lingren"] is a massive defensive tackle and nose guard. Having a defensive lineman like Connor is a big threat. Connor being 6’6 and over 300 pounds gave The Katy Paetow Panthers a lot of trouble. Connor was also agile for his size. No matter if it was one block or a double team the offensive line couldn’t keep Connor under control. Connor was able to contribute to stopping a good amount of runs and forcing Paetow’s quarterback to rush a lot of his throws. Connor’s high school football career is now over, but he has numerous offers from different colleges and universities. Connor has offers from; Arizona State University, Purdue University, Vanderbilt University, Air Force Academy, University of Incarnate Word, Northwestern University and Tulane University.

#34 [player_tooltip player_id="130698" first="Jaxson" last="Slanker"] MLB, OLB Sr 6’0 205 lbs

[player_tooltip player_id="130698" first="Jaxson" last="Slanker"] was always in the action. Jaxson would always find the ball holder and pursue him. Jaxson kept on making tackle after tackle and with his strength he was able to easily get off blocks. Jaxson high school football career is now over, but he has currently has a college offers from Harvard University. However, with the great game he had against Katy Paetow I’m sure Jaxson will standout by a lot of different colleges and universities. By the end of the game Jaxson had a total of 20 overall tackles.
